NJ Hunter / New Jersey Small Game & Waterfowl Hunting / Waterfowl / Waterfowl Hunting Delaware River and Rancocas

Does anyone hunt the Rancocas Creek for waterfowl. I live in the Burlington area and I'm thinking about getting a small boat to hunt the creek in the Delran/Riverside area?  Is a motor a must for this section?

People call the cops and game wardens as soon as they hear any shotting at all. I can tell you that there is very strong currents there and with the new nature walks they just put in for a total of 4 it's probably off limits there with all the safety zones

keep your 450ft and they can call the cops all they want!

me and my old man were sitten on the pennsy side across from the power plant in trenton and had to of seen no less the 500 ducks in the morning, we ended up baggin a couple mallards and blackies. trenton is one of the best places to hunt on the delaware cause of the marshes on the outskirts of trenton and the huuuge lakes on the pennsy side. also you get a variety of ducks up in trenton from wigeon, pintails, buffleheads and lots of teal.

Can you hunt both sides of the river with just a NJ license?  Or do you need a PA license at a certain point?

No gunning is allowed within the boundaries of Rancocas State Park, even on the creek.  I checked with wardens several years ago.  The rest of the creek out to the river is tough to find a 450 foot buffer that doesn't put you right out in the open or running the risk of going dry at low tide.  Its tough to find a legal spot.

Isn't the creek open water in Rancocas by the indian res? It's Tidal.
Posted:  25 Aug 2008 5:03 PM
Deosn't matter that its tidal - if its within the boundaries of the park, its no gunning.  That covers both branches of the Rancocas, too.  That's according to the CO for the area.

lots of spots at rancocas if you know where. Make sure you have atleast a 9.9 or your going to have issues with tides. Be aware of the sandbars...they will ruin your trip. Tons of submerged crap such as TREES sitting inches under the murky water. Be careful, but shootem up

I called fish and game and was told I had to get a map as the pennsy side was off limits as the line pretty much runs down the center of the river and also some of the islands are pennsy islands as well. so my question is anyone know of a good website to show the boundries on the river?
Posted:  04 Sep 2008 8:18 PM
Spoke with multiple wardens and park rangers on this issue before as it always seems to come up.  Unlike most people believe the regs are not the same as with fishing.  I was told the river is split down the middle and that some islands are owned by jersey and some by pennsy i.e if you have a jersey license you can not hunt the pennsy islands.  I did do some research and the majority of all the islands are owned by New Jersey which is good, but I cant remember where I found out about that.  There's quite a grey area on this because with an invisible boundry splitting the river if you bust some birds and your a little off center of the river say more on one side then the other from the man's view and he witnesses it and checks you and you dont have the proper license what happens than? Just a thought.

mallard they would have to prove it... good luck with that in the middle of the river
