Lookin to chuck hunt? I'm teaching my nieces and nephews to deer hunt, rifle marksmanship, etc starting with light bullets. Plus, to me, its such a fun caliber to shoot all day. ![]() __________________ We, The People, are all first responders.

Yep, and accurate as hell.. If you don't reload its a little pricey to shoot all day though. If you do, no problem if you don't maybe a nice .223 remington in a nice model seven.. I used to reload 12ga target loads, but it got to be a pain with the time and effort and all. Budget is tighter now. I believe Pennsylvania is considering a .24 minimum for deer in the future (elk already has a .270 minimum), so I'll probably stick with the 243. I don't know... have to think more about it. __________________ We, The People, are all first responders.

Cabelas in store sale at Hamburg this weekend has some nice deals on alot of guns. A nice model 700 in 243 with scope mounted.. Along with several other deals. Maybe check it out. They even had it in youth model 700 I think around 500 bucks. __________________ "from my cold dead hands"

Thanks for the helpful info, guys.
JC, I'm a little leery of buying a used rifle without inspection first, but I am going to personally contact the seller as soon as accuratereloading.com approves my membership. Looks like I will be spending some time reading at that website, anyway .... thanks. Buff .... the more I think about it, the more not sure i am as to what caliber to buy .... after you brought up ammo cost. Maybe you're right about the .223. I really want to make relative marksmen out of these kids, and I go to the ANJRPC range at least a few times a month myself .... I'm looking at a lot of ammo. I hunt with a Browning .308, which is overkill for what I use it for. Maybe I should swap it for a used .243 for deer hunting for me and the kids, and get a .223 to build marksmanship. Have more thinking to do. ![]() __________________ We, The People, are all first responders.

Keep the 308, awesome caliber. .243 is necked down 308, wich is where it gets its accuracy from. THis cabelas sale has 223 model 700's in adult and youth as well. worth a look if you have nothing to do. They also have 270's. You can get .270 ammo for reasonable these days. __________________ "from my cold dead hands"
