happily surprised by the stanhope pd.  appled for an address change on 6/25/08 and got my new card on 7/18/08.  Less than 30 days which is actually within the obligations of the law. glad I have a great pd here.

Suprisingly, my address change took 24 hours.....the detective would have done it while I waited except his shift was ending and had it ready for me the next morning. Wash. Twp. Gloucester co. Det. Famular, this guy is an ace in my book when it comes to FID matters.

Another example of how it can be done.  Other PD's that can't have no excuse.

I actually e-mailed the chief of police commending the officer's courtesy and professionalism and prompt handling of my issue and said this should be a model for others to follow. I mentioned that this can be an unpopular matter with alot of police departments, [albeit a NECESSARY legal step for being legit] and it is good to see a department respect my rights and get it done in a  prompt manner as not to cause any descrepencies or confusion with my new and old address .

Braggarts! The whole lot of ya!

On a more serious note, has anyone created/maintained a list of FPID friendly/hostile townships. Such a list that includes average timetables for applications, etc would serve a dual purpose of informing fellow members that are going through the "Ordeal" as well as letting these various depts know that their shenanigans have not gone unnoticed.I cant help but think that such transparency would be beneficial in establishing a more uniform standard timneframe among depts statewide.

The answer depends on which PD you are dealing with, just as it depends on how long it takes.

We should create a list with all this information.  I dont see any edit function on this site though so Im not sure how that would work.

I just had mine done in Bloomingdale. It took about 2 weeks. Nice and quick, now just to find the rifle I'm looking for....

So, for reason of address change only ... there is no Mental Health check, SBI 212A criminal record form to be sent to the State Police, etc?

I've read at the state police web site .. that concerning subsequent Hangun Permits from the same police department, fingerprinting is at the discretion of the police chief.

But, if an Address Change can be done *instantly,* and police departments are taking weeks, months ....

EDIT>>>
Ooops, now I re-read ...

Is that the rule for a change of address? I can't find that in writing anywhere.

I beleive you do need to submit mental health check and backround check for address change...they wanna make sure you werent in the looney bin or committed crimes before they issue a resident of a new town a firearm card.

Address change:  Mental health form, NCIC and SBI check, $5 fee for new card.  Maybe $64.50 for fingerprints if town requires them again which is their  discretion.
