I know it is only July, but i will be signing up to use my dogs for the kids this year. Last year was my nephews first year hunting, and the dog was a flusher and he grabbed more birds then the kids shot. So it really wasn't as fun as it should have been for the kids.
So i made up my mind at that point to sign up this year. There were 2 guys working together, one would stock a bird and the other worked the dog. So my question is, can i pick the guy that will help me? Cause i would like for my brother (my nephews father) to help me. |

I have done this hunt for the kids almost since it was incorporated. My daughter comes with me as a mentor. If you sign up at Assunpink your answer will be Yes you can team up with who ever you want as long as you have a dog handler and a mentor. I usually get the Parents to stock the birds while I give a safety or instruction talk. We can always use more help at Assunpink. __________________ WELCOME TO THE United Socialist States of America( USSA)

Yes. Its always good to have family members/friends working together.
I worked many at Clinton, and it was welcome. Thanks for helping. __________________ We, The People, are all first responders.

| mcfvpgpn, i was thinking of signing up for Whittingham (if thats how it is spelled) because last year when i went with my nephew to watch the kids hunt, the feilds were nothing but thorns! So i don't want to work my dogs through that stuff. I have hunted Assunpink before, so maybe i will sign up for there. I'll have to see what one is closer to my house. Thanks for the info guys. | ||

I don't know how the hunts are run at the other WMA's but at Assunpink you'll get your own field, usually without thorns . Besides a few other volunteers it has evolved into a a joint effort of several organizations. Monmouth County Fed. South Orange R & G and Central Jersey Chapter Pheasant Forever. We get about 50 - 60 kids.__________________ WELCOME TO THE United Socialist States of America( USSA)

i was thinking of signing up for Whittingham My pops and I worked Whittingham last year. All the kids in our group brought home two birds The field we worked had lots of thorns though, just like most of the fields at Clinton and Black River. But that's how it is in most of the places I hunt up north (except farms). I'm thinking of getting each of the dogs a protective vest for this season. Last year we had an issue with one of the dogs cutting his ear on a thornbush (so the vest wouldn't have done anything anyway), but the kids helped us administer first aid and stop the bleeding. Turned out to be a good lesson on first aid and everybody learned something.__________________ Dog's on point... get ready!!!
