The Assembly Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee will be hearing testimony on the Bowhunter Safety Zone Bill Thursday 6/12 @ 2pm.
I plan to be there to support this bill... If you are able I ask that you come out to the State House and support A595. Quote: This bill would amend current law to provide that no person, except the owner or lessee of the building and persons specifically authorized by the owner or lessee in writing shall, for the purpose of hunting, taking or killing any wildlife, have in the person’s possession a nocked arrow while within 150 feet of any occupied building in this State, or within 450 feet of any school playground. Current law provides that no person shall, for the purpose of hunting, taking or killing any wildlife, have in the person’s possession a loaded firearm or nocked arrow while within 450 feet of any occupied building in this State, or of any school playground. The bill does not change the 450 foot requirement with respect to a loaded firearm. __________________ United Bowhunters of NJ (LM) - President

here is a sample copy of the emails I'm sending out right now
6/9/08 Hello Councilmen XXXXXXXXXXXX I am writing to you to inform you of my “total support” for bill A595, which The Assembly Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee will be hearing testimony on the Bow-hunter Safety Zone Bill Thursday 6/12 @ 2pm. This is a very important bill that should move on to be passed as soon as possible so NJF&WL can begin to gain access to areas of the state that need the deer numbers brought down and within the carrying capacities of certain areas that are over populated and unobtainable at the present time to manage do to a lack of bow hunter access, because of the current laws of “450 feet’. Bow hunting is very productive and safe tool in managing our deer heard here in the great state of New Jersey. So I ask and implore that you Please sign and vote this bill in so we can do the state of New Jersey and it’s environment a better service and manage the over populated areas of the state that need to be brought with in the carrying capacity of particular populated areas that are unobtainable at present and need to be accessed by bow hunters in order to meet state management goals. Bow-hunting is a safe and extremely effective way to manage the whitetail deer, unlike guns which have valid safety concerns and need a much broader safety area, bows are very limited in there range and in fact pose a much less concern of safety. Most bow hunters shoot only with in a 25 yard range and are shooting downward from a tree stand so that arrow will go into the ground upon and after impact. It is extremely important that this bill be passed as it would be a great asset to the department of Fish & Wildlife to aid in the appropriate management goals of bringing down the deer population and creating a safer and more productive environment here in New Jersey. So in closing I once again implore you to please sign on to allow this very important bill to be introduced and supported. Thank you, Paul E. There were several statements made that written permission would be required. What's that all about?? I don't see that written into the bill anywhere. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil. Any amendments added to pass the bill?
Please summarize some of the testimony for and against the bill. Did the members of the committee have any tough questions? __________________ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote" - Benjamin Franklin

There were several statements made that written permission would be required. I was there and heard the same statements. It perked my ears too. But I think the Assembly people just have it mixed up a little. The new law will probably read that you cannot hunt WITHIN 150' without permission. Same as the current 450' rule. Bacs you guys have done a great job on this

I think it is fair to ask for permission to hunt 150' - 450' from someones house reguardless of the weapon choice.... I am going to get beat up for this comment, I know, I know... __________________ "from my cold dead hands"
