Just got the august issue of Deer and Deer hunting. There is some great articles in there this month. One of the articles is about how very little a deer's first rack means. There small spike that ended up being a 159 at 7.5 years. They also talk about how it is important to cull late born spikes and how to tell the difference and what causes short spikes. __________________ "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity" Randy Pausch The Last Lecture. Best magazine out there. Not a magazine that just shows huge racks. ![]() __________________ Treat fellow hunters the way you would like to be treated.

the only problem is in NJ they only live till 6months the state should implement antler restrictions state wide then. then all those little spike bucks that get shot can grow to trophy size. Franco.......... ![]() __________________ Franco..........

Not a magazine that just shows huge racks But they do show their fair share, but your right maybe not as many as others. I get so tired of stories that start with "so I'm sitting in my stand on opening day of Kansas bow season, when three 170 class deer step and start fighting...", it's just so unrealistic compared to Jersy hunting, where so few deer live past 2.5 yrs, it's depressing. |

i was told this by a professional hunter who i will not mention his name...If you can kill a mature buck in NJ legally doing all the right things you are doing something...Because in nj the deer walk threw the woods looking up at the trees...Out west in trophy country the deer dont have the pressure so the big bucks are more active during daylight hours...You can almost guarantee that in nj every piece of land that someone hunts it or someone has hunted it. __________________ FIRE IT UP!!!!!

The reality is that not that many (170's) are being shot anywhere in the U.S.A. And if they are the majority are coming off of paid hunts. Take a look at the record book. __________________ "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity" Randy Pausch The Last Lecture. It all means nothing if you don't hit em in the goods.

Quote: This may be true but the deer out there get any hint of human scent and their gone in a hurry. Ive seen deer walk thru my boot tracks 8 hours after I walked by and bolt out to the next county.Out west in trophy country the deer dont have the pressure so the big bucks are more active during daylight hours... __________________ >>>---> Shut Up And Hunt >>>--->

Quote: So true. I was out scouting on Sunday morning and was at least 3 miles from any path or access-I was as deep as you can get in NJ. I figured man no one would be crazy enough to hunt this far in-
You can almost guarantee that in nj every piece of land that someone hunts it or someone has hunted it. just as that thought crossed my mind I looked down to see last seasons OO Buck shell casings scattered about. There is no part of NJ that hasn't been hunted __________________ Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy gear, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt some venison for me (Genesis 27:3)

| They did a good one on their TV show a few months back. They watched a buck on a property upstate for 12 years as it grew into the dominant buck and it's slow decline and finally it's death (I think from cancer) very good show, just as good as their magazine. | ||

| Unfortunatly in NJ most bucks don't make it past 1.5 years so we never get to really see the potential that is there. | ||

est in trophy country the deer dont have the pressure so the big bucks They still look up out west as well. The reason an animal is on high alert is because they are molested and thats what the ones in the woods doing walking around. Theirs more ground out west that outfitters can rest for their hunters to up their sucess. Don't have that in NJ when your hunting someones back yard. |

How many deer you seen on the down hill side that is going the opposite direction. They reach a peak and then go backwards as they get old and their teeth wear down and can't eat the country side.
You run into them out west but very rare in the east. If a car don't get him he got dusted as a button of a Y buck ![]()
