NJ Hunter / New Jersey Hunting / Hunting Clubs & Land Leases / Buffalo County, WI - Trophy Whitetails (pix)
Posted:  02 Apr 2008 2:48 PM
Hello,
Just wondering if anyone would be interested in a week long lease on our farm in Buffalo County, WI.  I have a 500 acre farm that has been under strict managment for many years, and we are surrounded by thousands of acres of managed land.  Buffalo County, WI is all bluff county and we have both top and bottom access with all of our food plots and water holes on the top of the bluffs.  This property is managed for 150+ class bucks but we have a 130" minimum.  This would be a self guided type hunt for 5 days.  We have a bunkhouse on the property which has all the amenities.  Meals will be the responsibility of the hunters, but there is a fridge and stove, microwave, etc.. plus we are 15 minutes from a small town that does have a restuarant.  I have a huge detailed map of the property with all the standsites marked.  All the stands are clearly marked in the woods to make them easy to find plus I will help you guys until you feel comfortable.  Last year we had a group hunt with us and I would forward trail camera pictures of bucks from the property throughout the year.  Upon arrival we will tell you where the best stand sites are based off of the trail camera pictures, but it is your choice where to sit.  We will also help with animal recovery.  We are only looking for 3 hunters this year, along with the 3 guys that hunted last year that are retruning.  That is a total of 6 guys for 2 weeks time.  Cost is $2000 per hunter.  Because there is a only a couple of people hunting you can pretty much choose whatever time works best for you group.  Feel free to call or email if you have questions and I can forward some pictures.  I will also try to post some pics to this ad.

Thank you,
Laird Dickinson

I Dont get it....If its Managed for 150" then Why a 130" Min.?

Maybe because some don't know the diff between 130 and 150?

Seems to be enough speculation when someone shows deer these days and say whats your guess he scores?

The minimal score might help asure that the big ones are shootable and the smaller get passed. Just a guess.

Is Wisconsin still Earn A Buck?
That would suck having to pass on a big Buck because you haven't killed your Doe yet.

Hey guys....thanks for the welcomes.  To answer some of the questions...(I should have been more specific) we (me and my hunting partner) have managed the property for 150" whitetails.  I will would not draw back my bow on anything less.  We are very fortunate, and I realize we are lucky, to have the genetics that we have in Buffalo County.  We do put in the food plots, water holes, and leave crops stand, but because of the genetics in the area, if you let them get past 3.5 years old,.....they will grow into something special.  I also realize that other areas of the country rearly produce P&Y class bucks.  So we would like to see guys passing on anything but 150" but realize that we can't require it.  A 130" buck is still a trophy (and should be) in anyones eyes, and someone who hasn't harvested a P&Y class deer should be able to.... especially if they are paying to hunt.  I encourage it.  We are looking for 3 guys that will hopefully come back year after year.  If they harvest 130" bucks this year...well then next year they will hopefully raise their standards and look for a 140".  In a couple of years we will all be on the same page.  This farm has enough bucks that this can happen and not affect the herd.

Wisconsin is going to be earn-abuck again.  To anyone that doen't know what that is.....the Wisconsin DNR requires every hunter to harvest a doe before you can shoot a buck.  What we did last year was give the guys an extra 1/2 day of hunting to shoot their doe.  The hunt started on a Saturday and we told the guys to come in early on Friday.  They came in at 12:00 and we had them on stand by 3:00 and had their doe registered that night.  This way they were hunting for bucks on their first paid day of hunting.  It worked out fine and nobody argued about flinging an extra arrow.

We ended up taking a 140" and a 150" off of the property last year.  I will call them tonight and see if I can get and post the pictures.

Also, no one here actually likes Leine's but the cheese kurds are always frying. (cheese kurds are included with the hunt)

Later guys,
Laird

where is Buffalo county, and what weeks are you booking.
Posted:  02 Apr 2008 10:19 PM
Buffalo County is in west-central Wisconsin along the Mississippi River.  Because we are only booking 2 groups, the time frame is pretty open.  Our  Archery Season runs from Sept. 13th - Mid-November.

TinosDad- Tom is a great outfitter and he also has some great property.  Make sure you will be hunting his farm though......

For any of you that are interested in going to Buffalo County let me tell you it is some of the prettiest country (especially for hunting) that you will ever see. It's amazing to see how the land with all of the bluffs lays out. I guarantee you that not many have ever seen corn planted on the hillsides that they plant on. They have to have special drills !!!!. The town of Mondovi is a pretty special part of the world. Anyone that travels to hunt HAS to see it in person at least once in there lifetime.

Hey guys,

The flooding really didn't get that bad here.  Alot of the back sloughs filled with water, but for the most part we were uneffected.  The weather isn't cold with snow yet...ha ha.  I posted those pics back in April.  UltraMag77, nice site.  Looks like you guys do nice work.  To answer your question...The trail picture and the harvest picture are of 2 different bucks.  Split G2's, brows, etc, are common traits on alot of the bucks here.  The shed I am holding is actually the shed from that buck.  He made it through the year last year and should be an absolute monster this year.  I seen him twice last year during daylight but he was just out of range.  Lucky for him.  We had a group of 2 that hunted with us last year and 1 of the guys climbed into his stand @ 1:00 p.m., didn't have his release on or anything, and proceeded to eat a cookie, when that bucks chased a doe right under his tree.  He came back to the cabin that night sick to his stomach for missing the oppurtunity.  He said he will never not have his release on from that point on...ha-ha.

Later guys,
Laird

Here are some trail camera pictures of some of the bucks on the property.  Some of these guys have some more growing to do yet. We know of several other bucks that are on the property.  I will update as soon as I check the cameras again.  Still have the 3 spots available for archery but would also consider a group of 2 for a rifle hunt if anyone is interested.  Call with any questions.

Thanks,
Laird
