i was scouting for turkey's this morning on state land in zone 9 for turkey. This is zone 8 for deer. i came across and old Baker style stand on a tree. I couldn't believe guys still use them. This one was in great shape tho. Wood platform was in great shape and even the metal looked good. the stand was still on bottom of tree and no one stole it. if this guy usually leaves it year round in the woods this thing doesn't look it.
man i don't know if i could use a stand like that. with the way stands are made nowadays why chance using that thing? so if it's anyones from here, it is still there. nice spot too. i see you have all those ribbons for yardage markers i guess. alot of acorns behind you too on that trail. __________________ Soccer-Mom Pro-Staffer

| I had one when they first came out, at the time it was the greatest thing going for deer hunters. I know I slid down a lot of trees with that thing, very lucky to have not been hurt. | ||

My first stand was a Baker too and I slid down a few trees. I think the hardest thing though was having no seat, it really was a tree "Stand". __________________ Member UBNJ

If it's where I think. Go west past the baker & there are 2 old ladder stands growing into the trees. __________________ |

There a ladders stand on the knoll by the pines, Another in the cedars by the corn field (private property). there's a bunch of strap on stands in the old nursery behind the pond.
Watch the bears there. They lay up during the day in the thick gulley & the overgrow field. Last year whenever I cut through woods to get to the 3 private properties I Hunt, I'd kick up bears. There was a huge sow with cubs that wasn't to friendly either! Had to give her "warning shots" 2 different days. Dam bears! __________________ |

I found a baker in zone 21 a few years ago after winter bow ended, just at the bottom of the tree, I left it there, came back to that spot over a year later and it was still there. I guess the hunter decided to upgrade stands and just left it there to rot. someone did take it, I hope to throw in the trash. I used to use a baker back in the early-mid 80's with no hand climber, just bear hug the tree and with no saftey belt, I think back now and can't belive I did that! __________________ "The outdoors was a school that all native sons attanded" Merce Ridgway

They are death traps... My Uncle still uses them. he has a bunch of them so he uses them. I took a 20' ride on one once. Tore the crap out of my chest and stomach. Then the hand climber came down at mach 2 and hit me on the head. ![]() __________________ "from my cold dead hands"
