I made a deer meat calculator using an equation I found on a butchering website. Enter the deers weight and out pops and estimate of meat you get. Let me know what you think

I printed a card like that that also had a measurement for girth, and I keep it in my pack. __________________ I don't hunt over bait, I am just premarinating them!

Excellent idea!! I will make a Wallet-sized PDF file and put a link to it on the same page so anyone can print and laminate etc. to do the same. Thanks! __________________ Tight Lines, Wet Nets, Filled Tags and Full Bags

Deer Weight Estimating Chart
The chart below will help you estimate your deer's live weight, field dressed weight and also edible meat weight. How to use this chart: 1. Chest/Girth = Measure the chest just behind the front legs 2. Live Weight = Live deer on the hoof 3. Field Dressed = body cavity cleaned out (no entrails) 4. Edible Meat = Boneless edible venison 5. Weight is in pounds (lbs.) Chest/Girth (in.) Live Weight Field Dressed Edible Meat 20 37 26 18 21 41 20 22 45 32 22 23 50 35 24 24 55 38 27 25 61 43 29 26 66 49 30 27 71 53 31 28 77 59 34 29 82 64 36 30 90 70 39 31 98 74 42 32 102 80 45 33 110 87 50 Chest/Girth (in.) tarfu - thanks! Now I don't have to search for it.
I will put together a PDF file with a couple different size charts. That way you can print them out and either stick it in the wallet or in your pack when you go out and be able to compute deer weight vs meat etc. I'll leave room for name address and phone of a butcher as well so that info can be added prior to printing... just in case... __________________ Tight Lines, Wet Nets, Filled Tags and Full Bags

I'd say the chart is fairly close but doesn't take in account the 3 biggest factors of overall weight vs. edible meat. 1. cape weight, heavier as year goes on,2.Rack and head weight, some head gear and skin drop a 150# deer to 110# quick,3. Body fat, does body fat increases in percentage as season rolls on, upto as much as 20% in Jan/Feb., where as buck's fat percentage drops Nov.-Dec. from chasing does. The BIGGEST caveat on any game animal is shot placement, don't blow holes through the shoulders= more meat back. __________________ http://www.killerskitchen.com , http://www.killersworld.com Vengeance is a dish best served cold !!

| the guide i have from a study is real close deer dressed at a 125lbs will yield 58lbs of boned out meat they say to take the carcass weight =field dressed weight divided by 1.331 than takethat weight an multipliedby .67 givesyou the ideal boneless weight take that number multiplied by .70 to get realistic venison yeald | ||

What exactly is hanging weight though? I was wondering the same thing then thought it is probably the weight after you take the hide, hoofs, and head off. A 100lb dressed deer is not going to bleed 25 lbs. of blood. __________________ Linden Sportsmen's Rod and Gun Club
