I'll be moving to South Jersey this summer courtesy of the Coast Guard.  I'll be working out of Cape May, but I'm trying to find a house closer to Philly because my wife will most likely be working there.

I'm a trad shooter and there are plenty of 3d shoots every weekend where I currently live in VA.  Are there any 3d or indoor shoots in Southern Jersey?

Also, what's the hunting like?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the sight.  I'm from Northern Jersey so can't say much about what shoots happen down that way, but I do know that Bent Creek has a 3D range open on weekends and tuesday and thursday nights during the off season... they are probably an hour or so from philly and can say that it's worth the ride.

Welcome to the forum - this place helped me TONS when I started and I'm certain it will help you.  The people here are great so don't be afraid to ask anything.  I have some maps of some of the public hunting areas up (see link below) that may help you get familiar with the public lands.  If you want a map of an area that is not listed just ask me and I will get it up for you.

One again, welcome to NJ from your northern friend

Welcome Mo.  No 3D shoots around here.  UBNJ has a challenging course in August at Assumpink.  There are more in Pennsylvania that are not too far of a drive.  Thanks for your service.

Welcome to the site and Jersey. There was/may still be a place that has 3D shoots down in South Jersey. It was in Port Republic and the place was called Red Wing 3D. Not sure if it's still there or not. It was a pretty fun course to shoot. It shouldn't be that far of a drive from Cape May. May wanna check it out. I don't think it's open yet, but would be soon.

Check out the CapeMay Classic coming in May. Its a NJSFAA shoot. We have 2 courses with 28 targets on each. Big pratice range nice facilities. A great club to be a member of dues are $50 a yr. You dont have to be a member to particapate in the classic but you must join the SFAA(State field Archery Association) I think thats $20? Plus the entry fee for the competition. In the competition you'll be shooting paper not 3D's.

Garden State???  Where do you hide them???

All kidding aside, thanks for the welcome.  I don't care what I shoot at...paper, 3d, deer, turkey, rabbits...I'm addicted and I'm going to need my fix.

You guys gave some great info and I appreciate your support.  I might even see some of you.

Have a great weekend.

My condolenses on being sent to NJ.Just kidding, I did four years at the TRACEN, split between the garage, the Fire Department, and the Vig(210 feet of fighting steel).

There was a nice range out by the pavillion on the base, but I dont know if its still there. I went out there every lunch hour to throw a few arrows.

One of the best fishing spots in the state is the jetty behind the rifle range. Higbee beach (in West Cape May) is open to hunting certain times of year. The fishing is decent there too. Bellplain is about a half hour ride, which when I was there was a good place to ride quads, but I dont know if its huntable. Im pretty sure you will get your NJ license at the resident cost as long as you show proof of being stationed there.

Good Luck and welcome to NJ.

I just got back from a patrol a couple of weeks ago and I bought a house in Glouchester County.  I've been busy with work and settling in the house since I've been back and I haven't had any time to look around places to hunt.

I heard that there's a WMA around here somewhere that I can hunt deer on.  I think it's in Glassboro.  Does anyone know anything about the place?  I'm a trad hunter that likes to hunt off the ground or in a tree...I don't know much about the terrain around here and it seems like everything is flat, so I might need to stay in a tree.

Any help is appreciated.

Try to get out and scout to get you set up then. S.NJ is basically flat a few hills here and there.
