I stopped shooting them this yr. 2 out of the first 3 I shot at the begining of the season had raccoon rice disease running through it's breasts. I hate to shoot them only to throw them away

I have seen that before, what is it? Raccoon rice disease?

I'm not sure of the exact name. But the "rice" that runs through the breasts came from a disease that raccoons also carry. It crossed over into the black duck yrs ago. My buddy knows the name of it but off the top of my head I just cant remember.

I have seen it in Mallards and Black ducks, never teal. When it gets cold we don't see it as much.  It does look like rice though.

Congrats To You two as well I shot This black duck out marsh hopin the coastal zone last Dec. I should have had it mounted, but since I never ate one before I wanted to try it out. My first day duck hunting this year will be sat. Found a good spot thats been holding some teal and woodies, should be a good day !
