Welcome to the 2008 newjerseyhunter.com Bass Fishing Contest!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v642/Matt867/jumpinglargemouthopposite.gif

Contest Dates

Starting on the first day of Spring, Thursday, March 20th.

We'll end the Thursday before NJ Bow Season begins, a day of remembrance, Thursday, September 11th.

Rules

- Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass from NJ waters ONLY.

- 5 fish limit per week. 12" minimum length.

- Anglers must check-in their fish once every week with the necessary photos.

- Check-ins will be accepted no later than 11:59pm Sunday of each week. No exceptions.

- Once you have checked in for a weekly period, you can not add or "cull" fish for that week. This will cut down on excess pictures and posts in the check-in thread. (In other words, you get one post to put your five fish in for that week, so dont post till you're happy with your bag)

- ONLY ONE photo of each bass and the angler must be posted for points. Exception: If the bass is of questionable size, a second photo of length measurement is required.

- Accurate measurements to the nearest quarter inch must be listed for EACH fish. Length (tip of lower jaw to center of tail) and girth (measure around fattest part of fishes belly) measurements are both required.

-Fish of questionable size (ie: less than 12") must be pictured with a ruler, measuring tape, or measuring board.

- All anglers must use the Mepps Fish Calculator to convert their measurements into an estimated weight. No other scales or fish weight calculators are permitted.

-Live bait may be used by anglers age 12 and under. Anglers 13 and up may only use artificial lures.

-Catch and release only. Let the bass go so they can grow. If its really huge, get lots of pix and spring for a reproduction mount, it will last forever and lets that lunker live to see another day.

--------------------

Overview of how the contest works:

- Upon checking in every week, anglers will convert their fish measurements into weights, using the Mepps Fish Calculator.

- At the end of each month, all weekly weight totals will be added up and the angler with the heaviest total wins that month.

- Placement points will be awarded for how you finish each month. 10 points for first place, 9 points for 2nd, 8 points for 3rd, so on and so forth. 10th place and below will all receive 1 point.

- At the end of August, the angler with the most placement points will be declared the NJH Bass Angler of the Year!

- As we come into the month of September, the winning anglers from each month will clean their slates and compete head to head for NJH's master basser.

-------------------------------

If you're interested in participating in this contest, please sign up by posting on this thread.

Good luck to all our contest anglers!!!

I contacted three of my favorite lure companies to see if they'd donate any prizes for our contest. (fingers crossed)

Mepps, Gary Yamamoto and SPRO.

99% of the fish I catch are on a product from one of those companies.

Come on guys and gals, whether you're a serious basser, or a casual weekend angler, sign up! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

See if you have what it takes to outfish the competition!

My brother and I will be gunning for the win! No brotherly love on this one!

Yes none of those giant homobear florida bass that he cant catch. Or when he does catch them, his camera battery dies.

We only accept real bass, not imaginary bass or bass caught during dreams.

Just sign up Paul...

I'm nothing special when it comes to catching bass...I catch a few nice bass a year...

...My brother on the other hand, he fishes the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster series and puts me to shame. I got it covered though... I will resort to sabotaging his equipment and throwing his fish back before he can get pix.

I thought 2 man teams would be cool, however, if you get two guys like my brother and ChrisN on a team...Those guys live to fish and do nothing but schoolwork, sports and fishing...

They'd run away with it and it would get boring for everyone else.

I think individual is the way to go...Especially since we'll have monthly winners...and the master basser title at the end. Gives everyone a reason to keep fishing.

All you have to do is win one month to make it to the master basser shootout, where you'll go head to head with all the other monthly winners. thats when the pressure is on! Starting on Sunday August 31st, the anglers who qualified for the master basser shootout will have until September 11th to catch a 7 fish bag. The bags will be kept secret until the 12th, when the master basser will be announced.

(master basser bags will be emailed to me, if I'm not involved, or another member of NJH not involved in the shootout) This will make for some good suspence!

And to win the NJH bass angler of the year, you just have to place consistently each month. The most consistent angler will win that. You could finish third every month, but you may rack up the most points if you're more consistent than the other anglers.

We'll also recognize biggest bass of the year!

Its gonna be awesome! You dont need a boat Paul, just shore fish. My brother and I fish from shore most of the time. You dont need tons of time...Maybe you go out one evening a week and catch 5 good fish. Theres no telling what others may check in. When the fishing slows down, you may have guys not reaching their bag limit of 5 fish a week...Its anyones game! Thats the beauty of it!

matty if we go individual its going to be only a few people leading the whole thing. I think there should be like 3 or 4 people to a team..certain people cant be on the same team

I think the individual is still the way to go. No one should run away with it with the way it is setup. Each month will have a new winner and certain people are going to fish certain phases better than others. Teams will more than likely make it even more lopsided. One member could carry a team, or sink a team...Lets just keep it individual.

So far the following guys are in:

Bowanna
Hunter 12
Chrisn
CJoutdoors
Rangerfan
Matty
Droptine
BowHunterBob
pakman
runum n gunum
runum n gunums son (13 years old)
reggieapfd
Mikey (12 years old)

Guys who are hopefully interested:

Dave2122?
Hkdonfshn?
Browning10ga?
Andy881?
wickedrack?
bowman45?
sharpshot?
Randy?
Gretzky6869?

A little tip for measuring the fish too...go to walmart, go in the sewing dept, find the seamstress type measuring tapes and stick one in your tackle bag/box. They are cheap, like 97cents...grab a few if you're prone to lose things. Then run so no one catches you in the sewing dept!
