Been wanting to shoot a fox for a few years now. I've taken two over the years including one in '06 with a bow but both had mange. In January I started to focus on them but as luck would have it I had to work the last three Saturdays of the season. The first of the three I was laid out with the flu anyway. This Saturday I made it clear the deadline was 2:00pm. Just enough time to get home, change and fly out. I get to the property at 4:15. By the time I add some clothes and get to my spot it was 4:45. I had spotted a fox on consecutive weekends from my deer stand and made the adjustment from there. I brought a chair and sat in the hedgerow. This is the third week since I've last been out. It was about 5:30 and here comes a fox trotting through the cornfield. First right at me then stops at 100 yards. Hooks a hard right and it looks as though it will not come into range. Then changes directions a couple of more times after yet another stop looking in my direction but I eventually ended up with a 35 yard broadside shot. One shot put him down. He weighed 14.5 pounds and a real nice coat with a beautiful tail. I practically had a mild case of buckfever watching him come in from over 150 yards away. What a rush! The pictures were taken in total darkness so they are not the best and do not do it justice. In fact the one I took of dad with him came out better than the ones with me in the photo so I threw that one in too.
