Damn your off to a good start. I was out for a few hours this morning also, didn't find a thing. Who gets credit for the finds, you or the dog?
Posted:  26 Feb 2008 2:27 PM
The dog always without him I wouldn't find as many. Start looking in places that you can't hunt but there are deer. Today I was in Allaire state park group campgrounds

bowhunter444-

You are right.  I don't have a dog to find them, but I don't even look in places I hunt usually.  I look where there are deer and houses closeby.  They bed right next to the yards and drop them there.

I went out shedding. Didn't find a thing. Then my trail cam showed me why. All my bucks still have both sides of their antlers on their heads.

I've always wanted to take a walk through allaire, but never knew where to start. If you ever drive past the open field where the train goes through, there are always deer in that field. I've seen some giants there at night. Was always thinking of heading out there in the woods and looking.

Nice antler trap BH444
Posted:  28 Feb 2008 1:25 PM
yeah they seem to work pretty well I have about 30 setup in the mills right now. I go in and check and re-bait them every couple days. If I find a shed at the trap i check the trails  around the trap and usually find the match within 200yrds.

25 years of looking for sheds in the same areas helps.

Ken,
Your killin me. I was in the Mill also with my son. didn't find a thing. That spot in your picture looks familiar. I was parked out on Hawkin (Maroon Dodge)checking some of the swamps in the front. How many is that for you so far this year?
Posted:  01 Mar 2008 3:07 PM
12 total 8 in the mills and 4 in Allaire. That's the fence that is around the old missle silos. I found the big one in the field to the left and the other in the swamp.I was muddy up to my knees and got all cut-up from cat-briar today.

One spot I looked last year, is a couple hundred yards east of that area, in the swamp behind the fields. Didn't find any.  I'm looking in the same type of cover, getting muddy and cut up also, and still nothing
Posted:  01 Mar 2008 3:42 PM
Until you train your eye to find them you probaly walked by a few.

OK I type too slow. Thats a nice way to display them. Looks great.
Posted:  01 Mar 2008 5:42 PM
I looked for a couple of hours today in 3 different spots where I almost always find some.  Didn't find a single one !!!  I did find a nice 8 point skull and bones.  All gone except for a little skin.  Pretty nice buck, a little over 16 inches inside.  Not sure where all the sheds are though.  I'm going to try some spots close to Princeton tomorrow.

The bucks might still be holding them in your area. The pine bucks tend to drop early because of lack of good food.
