| we can only hope the state uses some of the found money and plant some feed in zone 21 next year.zone 21 will still be recovering in my opinion from last years moth fest and poor acorns.a mild winter will help too. | ||

It is not a matter of money why the fields are not being planted right now it is man power. the state has a hiring freeze right now and only has 3 guys for that entire area. The Federation is working right now for us to plant the field if we can get some of the clubs to donate some time __________________ Vice President Ocean County Federation Of Sportsmans Club Life Member UBNJ NAHC NRA Member Black Knight Bowbenders

Quote: its been at least 3 seasons since they have planted anything maybe 4?.how did they do it years before? you can plow and plant a field each day starting end of august.maybe they could even knock the rust off those machines just sitting in colliers mills. with the right machine it takes very little for winter rye cover crop to grow even in the poor pines soil.ive done it in small plots so i know it can be done without fertilizer and relying on the rain.winter rye is like 12$ for a 50lb. bag. its cheap as dirt. they havent even planted ONE FIELD in at least 3 years. i have called the state and talked to the gentleman in charge of those state game lands and its the same generic answer every year. he syas no money or man power. i say WE PAY ENOUGH SO LETS SEE SOME RESULTS? take one of those 3 workers and give them the key to a plow tractor and get to work. i can donate a couple bags of seed.heck give me the keys to the tractor.

Quote: as long as it doesnt become the sole use of the federation thats great. there are many clubs with plots and fields around there club property. i think it could create problems with a group thinking they should have the rights to hunt state game land fields that were planted by them . as long as its open to anyone im good with it. let me know when you need help.

Cant they let private farmers plant the fields for free as long as they agree to leave some standing crop for the wildlife? Wildlife profits and so do the farmers (if the weather and markets are in their favor) __________________ "Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." - John Quincy Adams

| the funny thing is that me being one person has done more for the managemant of zone 21 than the state has WITH its 3 people.im out there every spring making mineral licks and in the fall planting about 4 bags of winter crop. i called the division last year with reports of deer being way too low in numbers during the season .when you hunt an area for 30 years i think you know. i put on many miles and basically got lied to by the state biologist. i was point out told harvest numbers were right on par for the fall season when i called them in that november. guess what? next year when the harvest numbers came out it was off the charts low. they make us check in deer but dont manage the land quick enough for me.i dont think they look at numbers till after the season is over.with a computerized system they could look at any zone and have things like doe days shut down or winter bow or limit 1 buck during the 6 day firearm. with zone 21 the answer i got is not to worry in a couple years it will fix itself. IS THIS THE KIND OF MANAGEMENT WE ARE PAYING FOR?. | ||
