NJ Hunter / New Jersey Deer, Bear & Turkey Hunting / Deer Action / Deer Zone 8 / Stolen Tree Stands Chester

Well I got cleaned out today, I went to pick up my climber that was chained to a tree and it was gone. Then I went to my other stand that had a feeder setup and everything was gone. What a feeling I'm sick to my stomach. I hope I see this person using one of my stands next season in my hunting area. Why do people do this? Do they figure hunting season is almost over and do they go around looking to steal stands in the woods?

I hunt private property in Chester also. I got everything stolen in early Nov. Now I go in with my climber. People are scumbags.....

This is crazy all these a**holes stealing from hard working hunters!  I think we have all learned a lesson, this is a very common topic on here.  DONT LEAVE YOUR STUFF IN THE WOODS!!!

You've been robbed. Hopefully for the last time. Change your strategy and dont leave anything hanging.
Plan a few extra minutes and either carry in your stand or bury it next to a landmark where you plan to hunt. Its happened to all of us at least once.

Luckily I havent had any problems in Chester yet I have quite a few stands, a feeder, and a trail camera set up without any problem yet. Now montgomery Twp. is another story I had someone steal the straps off my stand and my treesteps. It all seems to depend on who goes on the property.

That SUCKS! My father got his lone wolf sit and climb stolen from black river.

I had a permit to hunt one of the Morris County parks in Chester, this was my first time. During the season I saw brand new stands some climbers and it never crossed my mind to even take a look at them. I would say to myself ok someone is hunting this area and move on. I called Morris County Park Police to see if they did a clean up of stands but they said no, they wanted to file a report on this issue. They also mentioned that Morris county parks have allot of anti hunters. From what I see it doesn’t madder what kind of land you’re on private or public this can happen to anyone. What would you guys do if you see someone using you stolen stand in the woods?

Did you mark your stand so you can prove its yours. They roll off the assembly line by the thousands and they all look like the one you bought.

im just glad everyone isnt blaming an anti..as much as i hate them most stand theifs are scumbag hunters most damaged stands are anti's sucks either way

I was at Black River today  after not hunting for 2 weeks and there were 2 climbers and a feeder set up for months , checked on them today after reading this post this morning and they were gone. But that's zone 9. I couldn't beleive they lasted a day after pheasant season. I must have had 20 guys tell me about the stands being there. Even over the FRS radios. Sucks you had them stolen.
Mean while there are atleast 6 stands in a line within a 200 yd stretch and each hunter probably doesn't know the other stands are there. All boardering private property.

What makes it your area?

The guy that had his stands in Black river never used them. I must have passed by them atleast 30-40 times and noone ever there. Jammed up a tree I hunt only 10 yds away. I've been hunting the same tree for 15 years, doesn't make it my area.

Get his license number and report him to the co's, providing you have proof it's yours. (serial numbers, sales receipt) Good luck and by the way Welcome to the Board.

Sorry JerseyHunter let me rephrase, "The area I hunt in"
Posted:  29 Jan 2008 8:53 AM
I hunt in Chester on private land that is close to those county parks.  Haven't hunted in over 3 weeks.  The only time I have ever left a stand in the woods is at 5PM when I know I will be back the next morning at 6AM.  Otherwise, my climber goes in with me and out with me the same day.  Cannot trust anyone.

One would think on private land you could, but people trespass!  That's the world we live in today...sadly!

Wow I would never have thought that Chester would have this problem. It's such a nice town. It's sad that some scumbag would do this.
Posted:  29 Jan 2008 10:21 AM
Well guys I need a new climber something light so I can bring it in and out of the woods any suggestions? The climber that was stolen was with me for 17 years, it's killing me.
Posted:  29 Jan 2008 10:24 AM
carry it in and carry it right back out, a mere inconvience, but a t least no stolen stands.
Posted:  29 Jan 2008 10:27 AM
If you ask me anyone who steals someone else property in the woods cant be hunters.

Or maybe they are but it takes a real low person to do something like this knowing what we go through to have the right setup and equipment.

Well there making them better and lighter now a days.
Can't go wrong with a summit viper, esp. if you want to take a nap.

Alot of trespassers, esp boardering state lands.

Hellen Keller would be able to follow the blood trail left behind by this scumbag if I caught them in a stolen stand of min.I can tolerate alot of things but I cannot stand theives and would have no mercy on them.

Charlgen,
Summit stands are solid.  I have a Summit Viper and love it!  Easy to carry on your back (sometimes I forget it's on my back...it carries quite well!), easy to size-up to a tree and I find it very secure once attached to a solid tree with good bark.
Posted:  10 Feb 2008 12:51 PM
I have not tried the Viper, but I have had 2 Summitt Bushmaster stands and they are excellent.  The most solid climbers I have ever used, and I go all the way back to the old Baker (deathtrap) stands.  Anyone remember taking your life into your hands with those things
Posted:  10 Feb 2008 1:06 PM
Baker was my 1st stand fun doing the cork screw down
setting up for a great shot.
I use a loggy 17lbs easy carry in and out.
I was thinking about a lone wolf hand climber only 3lbs less I can sit in the loggy 12 hrs no problem
I will never have a stand taken unless I'm it it
the scum bag better be big.
