TC121..

Your post above is idiotic at best....

The essense of being an outdoorsmen is personified in the Trapper...

As a hunter, how do you not see that

it's not hard to believe the theory that eastern 'yotes are the decendents of cross breeding with grey wolves

I was going to ask if yotes were in any way related to wolves but didn't want to sound stupid.  Thanks for answering my un-asked question.

I don't think it is. I am on both sides here, i don't care to see an animal with a snare around its neck either. But at the sametime, yes trapping is a form of hunting and this is a hunting website. Like it is always said, if you don't like it don't click it.

Well said Chris
It's people that think like TC121 that got leghold traps banned.

As sportsman we should respect and stand by our fellow sportsman weather it's hunting, fishing or trapping as long as it's legal.
I guess coon hunting with hounds is wrong in their eyes also. What about Pheasant hunting with dogs?

Posted:  25 Jan 2008 10:13 AM
Gobblergetter, just wondering if any of the fox/coyotes you catch, ever show any signs of rabies and if so what are your procedures with these animals?

It's hard to tell if a snared critter has Rabies.
I honestly don't believe I've ever caught a Rabid animal. I handle/skin all of them with latex gloves.

About 40% of the Coyotes I catch have atleast some stage of Mange.

i haven't seen mange in our coyotes yet. but 75% of my reds last year didn't have hair. i asked this grey tonight if he had rabies, he pleaded the 5th.

for all the trapping bashers, he was very alive when i got there. his body was laying down and he was not choking because of the deer stop. he was just wrapped up a little. thats what snaring is about, catch them, keep them alive, and then make the decision to dispatch or not. we are not permitted to use killing snares in nj.

What's next catch and release hunting? I tried to release the deer I shot, it just wouldn't go far!

you set a snare on a trail. the animal sticks it's head through and the snare closes, like a leash. the lock keeps it from opening up. you stake the end or tie off to a tree.
here is a before and after.

this is a coon trail that follows my stream. they go under my bridge, i fence with a couple sticks to force the coon to go throught the snare. this is a slim lock. the loop could of been smaller but i'm after a grey that has got around me for two seasons now. thats why the coon is hip caught, he tried to climb through the snare.

UB i see how it works noww you put the sticks and stuff in the way so it must go through the trial with the snare thats pretty cool your picture showed the snare pretty good
Posted:  26 Jan 2008 11:03 AM
TC121 thats for your support of trapping.
If its not for them so be it.
On a side note if you thinks its so easy to get an animal to sick its head through a tiny loop in the woods have at it. I bet you suck as a hunter also.

I stopped by the farmers house this morning to see if he has had anymore Coyote problems and he said "No" but he heard one last night over by the 'End Field'.
I told him I had a snare set there and that I may have caught it. His sons eyes got big and I asked him if he wanted to check the snare with me.
He jumped right in the truck and this is what we found, at the End of the 'End Field'.

Great job, I notice that you don't wear rubber boots, how do you try to conceal your scent from the trap sites?
Posted:  26 Jan 2008 2:24 PM
Actually I do wear rubber boots, but not for concealing scent as much as for staying dry.

Scent control is not as important in Snaring as it was when we could use traps.
By the time the critter detects any oder...It's to late.!

The farmers son took the picture..I think he had the zoom extended so he wouldn't have to get close.

He really thought it was neat...I believe he will be a trapper someday.
