Well I have been switching off between bow and muzzleloader looking for that late season buck. To say it's been slow is an understatement. Being my first year hunting with a gun, my goal was to harvest a deer with the ML before the season was up. With only two weeks left, I decided yesterday to take the first mature deer to give me an opportunity whether it be doe or buck. The plan was to go out with my buddy to one of his spots and get the hunt on video. Unfortunately he bailed an hour before we were to leave, but he gave me the go ahead to sit the spot without him. That in itself was an adventure having only been there a couple times and always having a quad to get us out there. So I did it the hard way and hoofed it. I got in and settled, and by 3:15pm. there were deer everywhere. With all the snow/rain we got this past week, I could hear deer all over the place. Between 3:15pm and 4:30pm. I had probably seen over 30 deer, mostly does and a few dinker bucks. Then the woods went dead and I thought it was over. Just a few minutes before legal shooting light, I had a flurry of action with a big spike, a few dinks, several yearlings, and mature does. They were all hanging out together stacked like pancakes so no shot. Finally the yearlings all bust out of the pack and start chasing each other which finally cleared the mature doe I wanted for a shot and I took it. The smoke cleared and there layed my trophy, my first deer with the muzzleloader. I was so pumped, just wish I could have had it on tape. Gonna try and get that done before the season is up, that would put the cherry on my season! Thanks to Jason for letting me sit his spot. Here she is;

Thanks all!
Buffalo, I believe you chimed in on a few of my posts when I was deciding on which gun. So far I am thrilled with it. Mike, good luck breaking in the new gun. JerseyHunter, believe it or not it's a little piece of private heaven in zone 19. |
