woj,
You missed the Big Kill today.  Tim and group got 12 today.  He said they should have had 13 so everyone was limited but a couple misses and a wild flush kept them from that.

Well if it weren't for the noses of 2 Drahthaars, I'd never have known that bird was there. The Girls alerted us to her presence and the rest as they say is history.
Shows you though how easy it is to walk right past or over those birds when they have good cover to hide in.

I was able to squeeze in a few hours of hunting this morning too. Still have 220 sq ft of tile to lay this afternoon, so I'll be mixing mortar all day Here's a few pics from this morning.

Pheasant breast... It's what's for dinner Much better than the chicken breast you'll find at the supermarket

I don't know... there sure are a lot of em though. They were just falling from the sky yesterday. Even the guys who get all the ribbing for being bad shots were shooting lights out The top pic was the days harvest for 6 or 7 people. And the springer you see in that pic is one of the best bird dogs I've ever seen. Her response to a whistle is unreal.

No... didn't buy that rooster at the grocery store I passed on 2-3 shots where birds were flying right at me just so I wouldn't shoot em in the breast. Guess that thinking paid off in the end, even though it could have resulted in a missed shot. I wish they would sell pheasant at the supermarket. I think Perdue, Tyson or other store bought chicken is garbage compared to fresh pheasant.

Imagine if Sundays were counted
Posted:  14 Jan 2008 11:43 AM
Ya know, Sats, Sundays, all week whatever.  This bird hunting is about the best going thing in the world.
Out in the field with your pooch or more than 1 in some cases. Sometimes with friends, other times all alone with the dogs.
Birds getting pointed, flushing, cackling, it's just great.

I was out this AM, see other post, and it was so quiet with the new fresh snow covering the ground.  I didn't even run the shock collars today. I put traditional bells on both dogs.  The worked up a storm and found 2 leftover roosters. Let me tell ya when those birds broke out of cover cackling away with the snow around, it was great.
The only sound besides the bells were the shot and me calling fetchup.

Your right Tom and no matter how hard or how easy at times when the animal is locked up and you move in and the dogs looking at the bird and the dog looks at you in the eyes and you have that connection with your dog or dogs there's no better feeling. Then you flush the bird and its over and then the dog takes over again. Don't know if I will ever see my dog get perfict but while we are learning together there is nothing better than that bond.

Its not about any birds as I see it. Its about you and your dog together woring it out.
