NJ Hunter / New Jersey Deer, Bear & Turkey Hunting / Deer Action / Deer Zone 8 / Man down - no safety harness
Posted:  12 Jan 2008 8:12 PM
I just wanted to let you guys know that my firefighters carried a man about 250 yards out of the woods today. He fell out of his stand and was not wearing a safety harness. I believe he broke him arm and possibly some ribs. Fellas, he was in real bad shape. We ended up Medivaccing him to Morristown Hospital. Did any one know this guy? It was near Voorhees High School Lebanon Township...Zone 8.

Just food for thought. We all hope he's alright.

hope he makes a recovery, But if he was hunting without a safety harness. That falls under carelessness on his part(in my opinion). I am sorry this happened but You can't walk into a sporting store that doesn't sell them and almost all tree stands come with them. After everybody hearing of these incidents year after year Why do people hunt with out them.
I know the value of them have always worn one and had an accident this year and the thing save my neck that is for sure

Woody, Good job by your men.  Excellent idea for future drills!

I don't understand why people don't wear safety harnesses these days?!  Let's do a better job people!!  Think about it...you hunt because you are passionate about it!  Now, what if you fell and injured yourself so severely you could not walk or hunt again.  How pissed would you be!?!  I thought so!!!!!

I went through three harnesses before I found one (Gorilla) that did not produce 100dB when putting on, didn't chafe my nuts every time I took a step, and didn't look like ass.  You won't be carting me out of the woods like that, I hope!

First let me say, I hope the hunter is ok.

I agree. I have a friend that never wore one and I convinced him that it is a no brainer. Looking back, I started Deer hunting in 1978 with the Amaker Treestand and didn't wear one. Remember the Amaker? Thank God I survived! By 1984 I was wearing a safety belt and to this day I would not go up in a stand without one.

And they are standard equipment for any new treestand.  Sorry to hear about the guy and hope he makes a full/quick recovery.

sorry to hear it!

i caught myself without mine today...had it on but forgot to attach it to the tree w/ the belt.  First gust of wind came and damn near knocked me out of the tree...boy did that jog the ol memory to check and resecure my harness.  gave me a nice little scare!

Man, what a bummer. I think that someone in PA was killed when they fell out of their stand, this year.

I just started wearing a hunters safety system, good peace of mind, especially for me cuz I hunt really high up.

Hope that guy heals up quick !!
