nope not really all i can say it was not the buck i was hunting but it was a boarder line shooter and i did not have a buck down yet.... it was about a 48 yard shot strait on he was about to smell me when the wind swiched on me and was at my back now he was stomping its feet and snorting but gave me time to shoot befor it took off.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I just dont understand...

If the buck was a "border line" shooter for you, why risk a 48 yard head on shot, just to fill a tag?

I believe you should shoot a buck because you'll be proud of it, not to "fill a tag". Looks like it was pretty early in the season judging by the cape, maybe you could have waited out the big guy.

Either way, congrats again on a fine whitetail specimen, that you should be PROUD of!

i like chalengs and i like to think that im a skilled shooter thats not the first buck iv taken head on its a fast killing shot if you know where to place the arrow being able to shoot out to 60-70 yeards no problem makes closer shots a breeze i practice these shots all the time and i knew i could make the shot... i try to shoot 25-50 arrows aday... for me its about takeing a smart animal in the moment that is prosented and it also comes down to at the end of the season for me if i did my job in controling and the manegment of are deer.

First, great shot and great buck!  Congrats!

But...

Shooting that buck does little to nothing to manage the herd, and it's early season...you have 6 months to meet your end of year goal

I understand Matty's question, doesn't seem to make much sense just sounds like you wanted to shoot a buck to shoot a buck.  If you really want to help manage your deer herd, shoot more does and later down the road (probably next year), that buck would go from a borderline shooter to a unquestionable one for you.

How'd the rest of your season go?  Did you catch up with the big one you were after?
