NJ Hunter / New Jersey Hunting / Butcher Reviews & Information / Is this post for real? Domestic vs Wild deer for consumption
Posted:  07 Jan 2008 10:44 AM
I was checking out a post on another site: Iron Chef venison battle is the topic...

Then I come to this:

Quote:
Restaurant grade venision is in no way, shape, or form like it's truely wild counterpart. It's MUCH better.
Here's why.
The game farm deer is slaughtered just like prime cattle, maybe even better. As soon as it's killed and gutted, it gets skinned, and refrigerated to begin the aging process under strictly controled conditions.
The wild deer is a different story. It gets shot 1, 2, maybe 3 times (or more) often right right in the prime areas, spewing fecal matter, hair and bone chips right into the prime cuts. Then, it gets gutted (more like ripped out) in the woods, under less than ideal/sanitary conditions. From there it gets dragged through the woods, throw into the back of an unrefrigerated pickum-up truck, and unceremoniously hung from a tree for a week regardless of the outside temperature. Then , off to a friend who "butchers" deer in his basement, where he breaks it down for the freezer, and it ends up home, and gets freezer burned until next deer season.

Those three little words make me think that a anti definetly wrote that...

Also this makes me believe that a anti wrote it because the only reason you gut the deer is to bring the temperature of the meat down and not to spoil the meat.  It doesnt matter how you get the guys out as long as you get them out.  More like ripped out has nothing to do with the quality of meat...

I guess this guy has never been to a slaughter-house.

Either he or his huntin' buddies are lousy shots and under-gunned.

I guess he savors the intestines, because he's describing a gut-shot deer.

No comment - just dumb, plain dumb...

If he is from Maine, wouldn't a 'refrigerated' truck be unneccessary during Maine's hunting season?

Does he like to butcher deer immediately? Does he bother to dry the cavity?

I don't know about him, but I've hoisted game and had a beer and cigar after. Pretty good ceremony too!
Salute!

How is his friend "breaking it down"?

There's the answer! His "friends" (he's probably not well liked) have given him some old freezer burned meat in hopes that he'd stop coming by for hand-outs.

Remind me never to hunt with this guy.

Definitely written by an anti who eats meat.

The guy claims to be a life-long deer hunter.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

He started talking about "remote-hunts" with "temps between the high 50's and low 30's"... no access to coolers. "deer hanging for days because you need to fill the tag...etc...."

I butcher all my deer asap. And when I cook it it is tender as anything . Also, I dont believe in wrapping bacon around it. They can keep their farm raised deer!!!!
