Great Buck! Go after him when the full moon comes in and hunt during the day @ noon. You might have a good chance at seeing him.

I agree with sugar one one of his two pioints...that buck will movw in daylight all ya gotta do is get in as close to his bedding area as possible!  You need to play the wind though dont hunt that area unless you can get in with the wind in your face and keep it thay way.  You bust him in his bed and you can write him off for the rest of the season.

As for the flash I've had several encounters this year with the deer getting spooking with the flash as well as the noise.  I agree yes the noise scares them more but the flash still gets em.

nice buck wonder if it is same woods i hunt
Posted:  07 Jan 2008 7:36 PM
what do you think he would score?

if it werent for this heat i bet he would be moving daylight with the new moon. as the only time i had big bucks on cam in daylight late in the season was during full and new moon and in the rain .

I think you either wait it out till next season (early or rut) or get some trusted buddies and try a slow push the last weekend of the season. If you spook him then he has the rest of the year to calm down.  What county?  Good luck.

Are you positive that you're camera is set up naer HIS bedding area? I had all night photos of a buck that I believed to be bedded in a certain area, come to find out he was bedding across the road. Still on our land, but he chose a small 150acre parcel over the larger tract.

I moved my camera to a corner of a cut corn field, on his side and got plenty of daytime photos, until my buddy arrowed him.

147" buck, too !!

there are too many escape routes it would take a militia to sucessfully drive the woods i hunt. the unseasonable warm temps and the amount of bait in the woods are making them extremely nocturnal. the pics shown are at 2 different stand locations approx 400 yds apart. i have been hunting the same piece of woods for 20 years and through all the strategy into scouting, stand placement/concealment,baiting, scent etc. these deer are simply unpredictable.

it really boils down to time in tree

Tough to say, but the sweeping left main beam looks very similar on those pictures.  Great Buck  If that picture is 3 years old, and those picutues are indeed the same buck, I bet that deer is 5-7 years old

What a great buck. I know what your dreams must be like. If the camera time is correct you can bet that this big guy is bedding up not that far from where you caught him on camera. I don't know how often he has been coming in but if he is consistant, and you have enough room, I would think about determining where he is coming from and more importantly where he is going to at daylight. Right now he is no doubt hooking up with ladies in the area so it might be hard to set up on him but I would still try to get off the bait and get myself into a position to catch him returning to his bedding area in the A.M. What ever you do I really wish you luck on this one. He is another example of some of the great bucks we now have in New Jersey!!!! Good Luck with him!!!!
