Really depends on how much you'd like to spend.  But whatever you do go to a pro shop.  NOT Cabeleas, Dicks, Gander Mnt., etc.  Depending on where you live I might be able tto recommend a good place or two.  But, the bow depends on what you want to spend and what feels right to you.  Go shoot a few different ones then decide.  Just be prepared to spend around $1,000 when it's all said and done if you go with a top of the line bow.  But Martin, Parker, Reflex, etc. make some great bows for cheap.

  Targeteers or Bordy's.

If you don't want to spend a lot don't shoot a ROSS because you won't be able to put it down

for a complete set up on top quality your looking at anywhere from $1000 (give or take a few dollars) $1300.....Not saying you can't do it for a cheaper price, but like others have said goto a ARCHERY PRO SHOP....Matty had an excellent deal on the BLACK ICE during 2007, a top quality bow

Pakman, I'd say go to Targeteers and ask to shoot some bows within your price range. Garden State Bow and Reel is another great choice.  I shoot a Ross Cardiac and LOVE it, you will get 1,000 different opinions, so just forget the name on the bow when shooting them and see what ya like best.

Go see Sig Borstad if you decide to go as far north as Garden State Bow and Reel.. Shoot a Matthews and then go shoot a Bowtech...

I agree. I'm also a newbie bowhunter and my experience with Targeteers was wonderful. If I wasn't totally against wasting postage on Christmas cards Rob would have gotten a card with a pic of me and my new Mathews. Oh yeah, be careful. Although I've only been bowhunting for a few short months, I've got a serious bowhunting itch and I'm already thinking about quitting my job so that I can spend more time in a treestand this winter.

This is true... My opinion of todays compounds is it is hard to find a crappy one in the lot. Not like the old days. Companies like Mathews, Bowtech, and Hoyt really set the bar so high the others had to catch up or go under. Good Luck, enjoy the shopping. I think shopping for archery equipment and experimenting with new stuff is half the fun of bowhunting. I agree go to a pro shop... I also agree, shoot a Mathews, a hoyt, a bowtech, and a ross before buying one or the other. Take a look at the Primos bear bows also. I shot a code and a truth and they were awesome. They are coming out with The truth 2 this year also. For 800 you could probably set up a code. Mission has new model out too, resembles switchback. Worth a look

like everyone said go to a pro shop.   i am new to bow hunting and bought a kid's hoyt.........it has been great for me as a female i had such a small draw that it fit me great and i know that because the pro fit me for it specifically

and yes the fever gets to you so bad, especially seeing all the action during the rut that i want to quit my job too  LOL
Posted:  04 Jan 2008 9:48 PM
i highly suggest going to a good dealer and shoot some different bows. if you have your heart on a mathews switchback i will be putting one up for sale as soon as i get around to it.
