It is a good area just if the state would stock more birds in there it would be better. Yeah it's a small piece of property but 100 birds is not a lot. maybe it's I am just use to Colliers mills . Manasquan WMA is 2 mins. from my house. I always see deer in the open field across from Brice park. Some nice size bucks as well. But I do not think that is part of the state land somehow I think it is a private farm..

I love manasquan for pheasants, dsont get any better. 60 birds, maybe 30 hunters, always get my birds tehre and there arent as many idiots as they have on the other wma.

That field is part of the WMA but is too close to the school. It usually is posted with Safety Zone signs..

I grew up hunting the Manasquan for pheasants..I agree the success rate is much higher than other WMA..Most ofthe time you get your limit (with or without dogs) but they only stock 1 field  and most hunters know that so the 1st morning push is always interesting with guys running to out position and pushing in every direction..(they stopped stocking off Ramshorn 15 yrs ago, but birds do fly over)..

My big issue with Manasquan is the ticks..I think there are more ticks in those woods than all of North Jersey..It is not uncommon to pull 100 ticks off you and the dog on a warm day..

As for deer, they are there...Dont over look the cattails...Good Luck.

Has anyone seriously deer hunted there?  I have to go walk it.
Posted:  02 Jan 2008 1:29 PM
I walked it the weekend before shotgun in december. Nothing to exciting I walked for a good three hours. Didnt see any rubs or scrapes. One spot had little bird houses all over the place. Also saw something in front of me that looked like a coyote or an animal of that size. could of been a little deer sticking low to the ground as it ran. Im going to try and do some winter bow hunting in a few spots I know back in that area.
