NJ Hunter / New Jersey Deer, Bear & Turkey Hunting / Deer Action / Deer Zone 35 / found a dead spike in 35
Posted:  24 Dec 2007 2:49 PM
me and my kids were out scouting a farm for trapping. well we found a dead spike. this zone has a three point rule. who ever shot this bladed spike didn't find the other tines. the deer was drug out of the woods and left on a road, to rot. the yotes and buzzards are doing a number on it. what ashame, this is the first time i saw this. i know it happens and i have made mistakes taking late season buttons, thinking they were 1 1/2 year old does. but i still doesn't make it right to shoot a spike and let it rot. at least i have a active bait pile for my snares. hanging this farm on the 13th.

By any chance is this farm off of Buck Road?  Last week a buddy and I obtained permisson to hunt a farm in that area.  The owner told us that several people have permission to hunt the farm and he recently sold it all to a developer(sale is still pending).  Anyway, while scouting the farm we found a dead spike on a trail near 2 ponds.  Seeing that was enough to discourage us from hunting the property.

thats the one. i don't say it's right, but break off the horns and check it in as antlerless, at least it's not wasted. everyone from the area hunts there. there was a truck back there this morning, i didn't notice him when i went in. by the looks of the chain on the ladder stand, i wouldn't leave stand in there. a teacher i had in high school used to hunt in there, and killed very nice deer. but now there are people everywere in there. hoping to snare a few fox and yotes in there, after gun season ends.

It's a shame.  The piece would have great potential if it wasn't beat to death. Last year I had 2 big bucks cross the road in front my car and entered that piece of land.  I think your only chance of getting a big buck out of there would be early bow season.  Good luck with the fox and yotes.

Got it, sent one back. Known all about that place for along time and it's a shame what has happened to it.

Merry Christmas.

If I shoot it ,gut it and drag it I am bringing it home ! That is a waste of good venison.

I made a mistake once and figured its either me or the coyotes and believe me I wasn't going to feed coyotes.
