My brother is out visiting from the west coast and asked to go hunting with me Saturday. I decided the best place to take him would be one of my ground blinds at my bow only spot. The idea was to hopefully see a few deer and let him decide if we would harvest one. I already had a family in need lined up for the meat, so this hunt was gonna be extra special if we could pull it together. Long story short, we got set up and settled in by 1:45pm. 4:30pm came and it wasn't looking good having seen nothing but song birds and tree rats. Then out of nowhere a nice 10 and a spike showed up. They milled around for what always seems like an hour but was more like ten minutes. They were facing directly away from us giving me only a texas heart shot. Finally, just before the 10 was about to make his way down the trail and out of my shooting lane, he turned broadside and I put it on him. I heard him crash and turned to my bro to ask him what he thought. He proceeds to tell me he saw nothing. I had coached him during the day about potentially being close to the deer at ground level and the importance of not moving. He took it to the next level and apparantly as soon as I let him know there were deer, he froze and never moved to look. LOL! In any event, we recovered the deer together (34 yards from the shot) and took a few pics. Today we caped and butchered the deer and gave the meat to the family in need. So I am triple pumped; I took a nice buck with my bow during a coinciding gun season, I got to share it with my bro, and I got to give the meat to a family in need. Doesn't get much better.
