The Crossbow is hooked up to my wheelchair batteries to allow power for me to activate/pull the trigger.

Here it goes...

I'm going to change the bite trigger to a sip & puff switch and I'm looking into a quieter actuator or solenoid.

Well, wish me luck.

Yes and No. I've been in the woods three times with it, but I haven't harvested anything yet. I do target practice with it though.

The first two times I went (went with my father, no hunter) I seen two deer, but I knew my father wouldn't have been able to do the leg work it takes to harvest them so I passed them up.

Hightech? Nah, I designed it and had my father weld it up. I want to make one for a gun, but it's to cold for me to hunt by then.

Ms Grit, thanks for the kind words.

I've been injuried since 1996 and I've always wanted to get back into hunting. I didn't start to try until 2005.

Thanks again,

Keith

Sweet rig!!!!

FYI - You can also apply for a permit to shoot from a vehicle. However I don't blame you for passing on the permit when you have something like that.

Thanks to everyone that responded.

As I see on this site even if you're posting something positive (like how to hunt after disability) it gets pushed aside because it's crossbow related.

Wonder if I make a "gun rig" and post it if that would be pushed aside? We all must hunt no matter how...why can't it be that simple? Isn't a sportsman a sportsman in any situation?

Thanks, but could you imagine the outcry I'd get on here if I were to get that permit.

Don't let it get to you. It's just a few that will find fault with everything.

True nightstalker911. I found myself lashing out at your post earlier...because of the response to that.

I truely, jumped the gun. And I thought my morning started out so nicely to. Oops!

Hunting handicapped has to rank at the top of the list of achievements for any outdoosman. Your devotion and attitude say a lot more about you than the sport itself. Sometimes this site is like having another mother in law. Just ignore it and get back to the important things in life Merry christmas

Holy moly... what a set up.  Man I hope you get a deer (or turkey).

I am gonna move this topic to the general section even though its about a crossbow.  Those against the use of crossbows are NOT against the use of crossbows in this situation.  You all know it.  And I know it.

I highly highly doubt anyone would say anything.  If someone did... then they are an (insert your favorite expletive here).

First off thanks for the move Dragthor. But if it had to be placed where it is "rightful spot" then I've added it to my signature.

Quote:

I too hope so.

My problem is I come with a lot of baggage in this situation and I instantly feel I'd be a burden to any help.

With that said, there have been two folks I talked to who live pretty close by who offered. Hunterpanz1100 (Sal), fmjcrack (Dave), Even MarksWorld told me to call him (I think he is lower Cap May), but sadly I haven't contacted him. Again, my own fault.

Now, Dave and I hooked up a couple of times and drove out to show one another different locations we had in mind. But by the time we got together it started getting to cold for my body to handle a good evening hunt out. We're still in contact for future hunts.

With all that said I need to get my behind target practicing to make sure the xbow is on. Even, a simple task as this is hard for me though.

Anyhow, thanks again for the all the offers and replies. I've had quite a bit on the list throughout the state.

Fascinating. What a set-up. Good hunting.

I'm glad Drag moved the thread here or I would have missed it.

One question that goes through my mind is: I hunt areas that at best have poorly maintained dirt roads that can be a difficult walk, where do you hunt to get in and out of the woods? I have always felt places like the old Jungle Habitat in West Milford would be ideal to be maintained as a special needs  area as the old paved roads are still in good shape and could provide access as required. It is now state land and is pretty decent hunting.

rackmaster - hmmm.... maybe a "special needs only hunting" state park or something?  Hmmm.... maybe one of the state parks that is not currently open to hunting... can maybe bend a bit and allow properly licensed permanently disabled hunters.  Hmmm....  why not?

But then again... I can see lawyers getting involved and screwing the whole thing up.

Yeah, probably, but IF enough folks worked for it, they'd be less likely to do that?

Thank you sir! It's outstanding that even with severe disabilities he's able to overcome them and still hunt, I'm overwhelmed when I see things like this!

AWESOME is exactly what it is IMO

I agree with that 100%

And the few who are (like the bow clubs in New York) are finding out that it's a very poor stance to have and impossible to support/defend with most people.

Keith,

It looks like you're somewhere near my neck of the woods. I've got a few spots in mind that might work for you. I'd be more than happy to show you where they are and join you out there anytime I possibly can. I know winter bow is too cold for you, but I'll keep you in mind while I'm out this winter and maybe find a few more spots for you to use next fall.

That is what makes sportsmen/women stand out in the crowd, that's an excellent offer, and I hope it can happen!

MAJOR Kudos to you Kevin for offering this to Keith, that's what it's really "all about"
