He is an interesting read I found on antler development. It does deal with Tennesse's deer herd, but if you study the maps of soil types you will see Jersey in there.

That is pretty cool. but if you look at the map for record book bucks. How does long island have more pope & young and boone & crooket entires the the entire state of nj. I am puzzled with that information. Other that is still pretty cool how they go county by county. ![]() ![]() __________________ FIRE IT UP!!!!!

Quote: LI is all private land. Deer exist on farms and around small woodlot residences - not to mention bay and ocean-side marshes and dunes. The farms, if they allow for hunting, are usually well managed and the residential areas are essentially closed to hunting except for those properties not owned by people unaccostomed to hunting. It is like Westchester County was back in the day. I think that the deer get old.

whats a down state?????Down wind of L.I.????? LOL
I thought genetics play a huge roll.I've noticed that NY deer have a shorter snout that Jersey deer.........why?Genetics right? My buddy shot a deer in Ringwood and it must've crossed from NY...it looked really short in the nose Any thoughts? __________________ "One of my favorite sounds is the silence of the woods"

Quote: Morphometric differences are discovered by researching thousands of animals from different locals. You could probably find research on the geographic genetic differences in whitetails. Fact is, southern NY and LI were restocked with the same Virginia and Michigan whitetails, back at the turn of the century, that New Jersey was.Any thoughts? __________________ Helping deer go up the food chain since 1979.
