Your blind but if you want to save a fishery that over 60% of the tonage goes to Commercial boats Im sure they will appreciate it.
The Recs didnt over-fish. The recs dont dump tons back dead. The recs don't profit from this fishery. Want to fix it? Stop the commercial guys from rapeing them all winter. Don't put it on the backs of the Recs to make up for their overfishing. Would you send money to Mobile Oil to get the Alaskan fields open to drilling? Comm guys have MADE money of flounder. Recs Bleed money for flounder. I'm done as long as you are also. |

6. the art of making persuasive speeches Quote: It will hurt the com/charter guys worse than the recs. Not that I wish this on them but the blame has to be asinged before we can know what has to be changed. Quote:
Yes I do fish.. I even have a 25ft w/a that I slip in Capemay. We are behind the 8ball because of the blatant abuse of the bycatch laws. They are legal in what they do but I will not support the rights of commercial fishermen. Sway some their tonage over to the Recs. who support the whole industy & problem would be alot better. Before you trash me I grew up in capemay county working of boats. I know a lot of the Com guys & what they are doing is legal & I have no rights saying they are A-holes but the rules have to be changed. Quote:
Its hard to give money to an org. that is alined with the cause. I would not ban together with the problem to solve what? Commercial guys, party boat, charters have the most to lose . let them foot the whole bill. I may be stubborn but I can no way give money to help any commercial guy. Rdf...what you are doing is attemping to persuade people from donating to this cause in a thread that is suppose to take donations. so i think i am correct in my use of the word. This thread reminds me of the donation thread to save NJH. At the time there were about 3000 members and we were lucky to get approx 100+ to donate . In the end the actions of a few, saved the site for everyone. That thread was bumped about 200 times and i know there were alot of people who frequent the site on a regular basis who chose not to donate the 7 dollars that was asked of us, but yet it was saved by the members who stepped up.
This is the same thing. If we manage to win this battle, there will be plenty of people enjoying fluke fishing because of the actions of a few and that is sad IMO. We all fight and argue on this site but in the end we are all on the same team with our love of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. I'm sorry for hijacking, but i needed to get this off my chest. __________________ Visit my store at http://www.PatsOutdoorStore.com/ If you don't see an item you want, just call or email me and I will get it. It will hurt the com/charter guys worse than the recs I havent posted on this thread up till now,, but i have to ask you something.. isnt your statement kind of like ,,, bitting off your nose to spite your face::::: basically youre saying you dont mind hurting yourself as long as you hurt the other guy even more. kind of like the people thats dont mind strpping a bomb to themselves as long as they kill 20 people along with themsleves a little far fetched but in the same lines dude if you dont believe in helping the fluke season then stay out of this thread, anyone who fishes or cares about fishing in this state should stand behind this cause, you dont have to donate if you dont want to or cant due to financial reasons, but at least support the cause __________________ Git-R-Done

dude if you dont believe in helping the fluke season then stay out of this thread, I do believe in helping the flounder fishery... I have written letters about the the flounder hervest split. The flounder get hammered by deeppwater draggers every winter. Comercial fishermen's by-catch is half of the total Rec harvest. Hey I'm sorry I can't see how you guys want to donate $$$ to make sure The Comercial guys can continue to devaste the flounder. Tell me the money is going to fight for the Recs. to have a greater share of the hervest since we contribute more $$$ to the economy & the check is in the mail. You love deer right? What if a Ar org was tring to save a 50 square mile forest from devlopers. It will never be hunted but also never built on. Would you donate $$$? After all you love the outdoors & deer. Shouldnt you look beyond the "no-hunting issue & think only of the cause? My OPINION is only is only that an opinion. I'm sorry if it offened any of you it was just meant to give ppl. the whole story. |

I didnt see enough info on the website that would make me send in $$. Im no fan of govt regulations restriction our freedoms, but if the fluke population is dangerously low, it should be closed until it recovers. It seems there is a dispute on whether the govts data on the fish is correct. Once some independent data is gathered, then we can make an educated decision.
This reminds me of when the Canada Goose season was closed. Everyone was in an uproar. Hunters, businesses that made their livlyhoods on the geese, etc. But the fact was, the numbers were too low to hunt. The season was closed for years and now there is a strong population that can sustain a hunt. Maybe this is the case with flounder? That being said, I would never support regulations where one group could fish and others couldnt. Its either all or nothing. __________________ "Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." - John Quincy Adams

The fish are not in danger, The stock is better than it has been in years, decades even. Ask any fisherman who was out there last summer and to a man they will tell you this.. I would say I was on the water at least 40 times during Fluke season alone.. and I can tell you first hand the fishing was phenomenal.. The data they are using to set these biomass numbers are BS numbers pulled out of the air.. Quote:

Thas all that is being asked, allow independent data to be used but the powers that be will not and will not use any factual data.. They are sticking to thier guns with these made up numbers.. __________________ "Fat, Drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son."

The data they are using to set these biomass numbers are BS numbers pulled out of the air.. Supposedly...the "current biomass" is the largest biomass of summer flounder ever recorded... They are talking about shutting the season down until 2011 right? I tend to drift of at meetings during topics that I don't have a huge interest it...Fluking is only a moderate interest & I didn't pay enough attention as I should have... __________________ United Bowhunters of NJ (LM) - President

While I realize your specific concern regarding commercial fisherman overharvesting and often bordering wonton waste of fluke and other bycatches, I do have several questions. 1) Do you believe the fluke numbers are really at such a devestated level that it requires closing the season for ALL fisherman? 2) Do you truly believe that the closing of the fluke fishing season for all fisherman (commercial, recreational) will somehow correct the issues with commercial fishing? It won't, in fact, being short sighted in having your focus entirely on the commercial end, you are completely overlooking the devestating effect it will have on the local economy, family businesses, local businesses, recreational fisherman and potentially even the ecology and fluke fishery. 3) With the fluke biomass estimated at an all time HIGH (based on active fisherman's observations, not some construed data), what are the effects of ceasing all fluke fishing, i.e. zero harvest. What will happen to the biomass then? What will be the trace effects on the rest of the fishery? I honestly don't know, but I do believe the fluke fishery is at a very healthy level based on my own fishing last year and the year before...and every year as they've increased the size limits to compensate for overharvesting and we've continued to see an INCREASE in fish and catch numbers at the recreational level. In a nutshell, it sounds like you are grinding an axe against the commercial guys and everyone else is going to take the brunt for it. It's an axe we all can grind, and no one us agree with the illegal and wonton waste practices of *some* commercial fisherman(which exist for ALL fish species, not just fluke), but you are comparing apples and oranges here. Although they are interlinked, this is NOT the battle to address the commercial fishing shortcomings, it's a battle to protect and accurately manage the fluke fishery for ALL sportsman, fisherman, business, families, etc. |
