Gentlemen,
One of your members asked if I would come over to your sight and give a brief summary about the Save the Summer Flounder fishery Fund. I appreciate the opportunity and after reading some of the post, I see you already are supportive of the group. SSFFF is made up from everyone involved in fishing. Party, Charter, commercial, Bait and Tackle shops, Manufacturers and Recreational fishermen. We all share a common goal, that is to save the Summer Flounder Fishery...not the fish, as they are not in trouble!! The ASMF represntative from Virginia at the meeting the other day made it clear that the fluke bio-mass has gone up 6 fold in the past few years. It's the law that is the problem. In brief the ASMF hands are tied because of wording in the Magnuson act. Our goal is to change the wording and add flexability, which will achieve the goals set by NMFS and not put people out of business...The Enviro's who want to stop fishing all together, want the wording to be No-Flexability, Regardless of the Economic Impact!!! Meaning Screw us and everyone who loves to fish. They even want a moratorium for 10 years from 2009!! This after the stocks have rebounded so well. This is just a brief outline, I certainly could talk forever, but the blood pressure has reached it's peak for the day. Rememeber, these are the same clowns that want to end Hunting and take away our guns!!! They tried that here in Jersey and look what happened to KARCHER!!! Thanks for your time and support. I would not ban together with the problem to solve what? Commercial guys,party boat,charters have the most to lose . let them foot the whole bill. I may be stubborn but I can no way give money to help any commercial guy. |

Yes I do fish.. I even have a 25ft w/a that I slip in Capemay. We are behind the 8ball because of the blatant abuse of the bycatch laws. They are legal in what they do but I will not support the rights of commercial fishermen. Sway some their tonage over to the Recs. who support the whole industy & problem would be alot better.
Before you trash me I grew up in capemay county working of boats. I know a lot of the Com guys & what they are doing is legal & I have no rights saying they are A-holes but the rules have to be changed. TTT |

I would rather have everyone donate a couple of bucks and win the right to fish than to fly one of these during the fluke season.

I can not understand why ppl. would donate $$ to save a fishery so 1/3 of the alloted tonage gets swept over the side as dead by-catch.
PPL need to understand this. |

This is going out in tomorrows mail. If anyone would like to mail off a similar letter to these people we may be able to save our fluke season:
Dear NMFS I would like to go on record in SUPPORT of the higher summer flounder quota of 15.7 million lbs. The lower quota would make it even harder for me and my fishing friends to bring home a fluke for our families and would cause more harm to our fishing community, those in the fishing industry and all of those other businesses that are supported by the monies spend daily by fisherman and women. I have actively been fishing for over 50 years and several of those were working on the party and charter boats in Belmar, New Jersey. It is my opinion that the summer flounder bio-mas is the largest ever recorded and I see no need for further restrictions.
