Well headed out for the last day of 6-day with my dad today. Due to rain we went to medford wma and plus I had my muzzy permit for this zone so I could take a doe. Got out there and I loaded the gun in the truck so nothing got wet. He was being mr. slowpoke so I took off and headed to my spot in the woods. Got settled, moved the snow and wet leaves from the ground and sat down leaning against a tree. Felt really comfortable and was satisfied with my spot when a guy walks up behind me and sets up 30 yards to my right. Forget this thats where the deer will funnel so I have no shot I got up and moved down about 75 yards and sat but just wasnt feeling good about the spot and it was still very early so I took a walk to the far end of the powerlines. Avoided my dad who decided to finally venture to a spot LOL and I saw 2 guys on one side of the powerlines so I took the other side. Sat a good hour with just watching 3 crazy squirrels going at it on the trees. I really liked this spot. It creates a nice funnel for the deer and they cut trees and stacked them so i was able to be protected from wind and was very comfortable. Decided to go to the far back and do some spot and stalk. Found some nice areas but didnt see anything. All the way in the back I stumbled upon a guy hunting and backed out quickly. I decided to check the spot I was at in the morning first thing and wasnt paying too much attention when I see brown and white start trotting away. Put the gun up and got the sights on the lead deer but they were on the other side of that stupid fence and were running so no shot. First one was a doe and I believe the second was a small buck, not completely sure tho. After that I stalked 50 yards to see if they stopped but decided to back out go to the truck and take a little rest. I would then go to the powerlines and see if they were down there. I did that and got there, found a dead pheasant and was examining some rubs. Im standing in a 10 yard permimeter for about 5 minutes and 15 yards away is a doe bedded down. never saw her. Well I guess I just smelled bad as my dad would say and she took of. She got up and did a slow trot out of the woods. Me being a youth and alert I cocked the hammer and put the sights on her a BANG. Lost the deer in the cloud of smoke but then saw it take off. It got out to the path and bolted from there. I thought It was gonna fall over but it just made the quickest turn ive ever seen. I checked for blood in the spot and nothing. Went on the trail where she turned to look for blood but nada. So now I go back and examine what happened. Well theres a tree about 2" thick with a hole straight through it. My dad heard the shot and came to investigate. As I showed him the tree and all he just laughed at me but also congradulated me on finally getting a shot at a deer. Took me 4 years but I did it So my last day of being 15 wasnt all that bad. Finally got a shot at a deer. Had a great day in the woods. Got a soaking wet cold butt from the whole deal but after I took that shot I didnt even notice. What a thrill, my heart was racing. Hopefully next time I have a little more time to take a shot and will connect.__________________ To fish or not to fish...what a stupid question

Glad you had a good day overall. Next time you are in a spot on state land and someone sits down near you. I suggest staying put. You were there first and on 6 day week with all the guys on that property walking around you still have a good chance of seeing deer. Good Luck with the rest of your season!__________________ "from my cold dead hands"

Chris, loved reading that story!! So many good lines, great sense of humor. Glad your dad also laughed when he saw that hole in the tree. You'll get a deer, soon, I'm sure.
Lots of luck next time you get out there.
Am looking forward to reading another story, and hopefully, you'll also have a pic to post. ![]() __________________ Am a non-hunter who is PRO hunting supporting what YOU like to do!

That's why it is hunting and not killing.
Great story and buff is right. I stopped at Medford on Thurs. afternoon and talked to a couple of guys in the parking lot. They had been hunting there all week and saw a few bucks. One guy shot an 8 on opening morning but it crossed the orange snow fence and he said there was a guy waiting on the other side that told him he could not trail the deer on their property.
Another guy said he saw a 6 on Thurs. morning but he could not get a shot before it crossed the fence. They said a club drove it first light on Thurs with one shot near the end of the drive. __________________ "I'M YOUR HUCKLEBERRY"

to track deer onto property you need permission, but i believe the game warden can get involved and you can get permission?
not trying to be controversial, but maybe gametheft? __________________ "Without either the first or second amendment, we would have no liberty; the first allows us to find out what's happening, the second allows us to do something about it!
