I bow hunt in 65. Very picky to what I shoot. Every year I know that the bucks I pass on will probably get mowed down by the orange army.
I hope they didn't play the brown and down game this year. |

I hunt on the lake side, where the WMA office is.
The Clubs and driving is why I gave up on shotgun hunting. It's much quieter in my area while bow hunting. Altho I did have a guy set up a ground blind 50 yards from one of my spots :/ I can't believe he left it there. He was probably a ML hunter. Anyway. Hope the clubs lay off the little ones. |

I hear you this is the first year I tried shotgun in a few years And when I seen a guy hunting on the ground 40 yrds from my stand opening day I remember why I gave it up. I hunt down off 73 I did shoot a spike during bow because it was my last day to hunt and I needed meat for the freezer. I have not been seeing much deer this year. how was your bow season. my buddy shot a 5 point up across from the baseball fields closer to you. __________________ One of the few from the south Camden county zone 25 |

Quote: thats why i believe doe days shouldnt be during the 1 week firearm. also a state wide 3 point rule on one side would force people to look before they shoot.
I hope they didn't play the brown and down game this year. |

| Yea i dont believe that 3 point rule is that great. Yes it does help an area out if they have the genes for it. But where my club hunts in zone 21 everyyear we kill a big spike or 4 or 3 pointer that is 2.5 up to even 5 years old . That area doesnt have the genes to have the antler restriction. | ||

stop the crying about clubs. waaaa waaa get a tissue.
Clubs are great! Ask to join one. Visit one, find out what it is about. How come no one bitches about the deer a thon but bitch about clubs? __________________ "Without either the first or second amendment, we would have no liberty; the first allows us to find out what's happening, the second allows us to do something about it! Clubs decimate every deer. They don't care of size. They just want to get a deer.
It's not real difficult to surround a piece of woods and push the deer to the standers. Come on.. Be real. I get the whole.. Tradition.. etc. But it is a rather lame way to hunt. Go scout the woods and set up on the deer. Try that. Can't sit still too long? |

Everyone is diffrent and everyone has thier own way of hunting. All these methods are legal and we need to stand together as a whole. Public land is public land and everyone should use commen sense. BUT we also must understand that some peoples tolerances are diffrent than others.
Hunt the way you like and be mindful of other people. Everyone enjoy yourself and good luck the rest of this year. ![]() __________________ "How can you be so hypocritical to look down on a man who is honest enough to kill his own?" (Thanks MTH)

Thats a deer you should leave to breed and spread its genes!!!!! Kill the big 10 point and leave that sucker out there... The herd will be full of great bucks then!!!!!
Antler restrictions are not the answer... Killing less bucks each year IS the answer... NJ gives hunters TOO MANY buck tags!!!!! Keeping doe days out of the 6-day is not a bad idea either... Buck week should still be BUCK week!!! __________________ ............................................

I agree with you Jim.
But I think that antler restrictions would help as well. |

Quote: You need to be able to remove some of the scrub bucks from the herd or you'll end up with too many scrubs breeding and not enough dominant bucks left to breed....
But I think that antler restrictions would help as well. 2 buck tags a year...1 anything buck and 1 quality buck (4 points or better to a side) This way you have the weekend warriors still able to fill their tags with any buck. (This helps the herd) and it leaves more quality bucks for the trophy hunters. With only 2 tags avalible more deer will make it to see next season giving them a chance to grow.. With the quality buck tag more scrubs will get passed on leaving them to grow.... The anything buck tag will help keep the scrubs from dominating the herd by removing some of the weaker links... __________________ ............................................

Hi all, this is my first post (and what a thread to jump in on). Let me state from the start that I will support all legal means of hunting. The number of licensed hunters is in decline so we need to stick together. However, I think some changes need to be made.
I've been hunting zone 65 for about 13 years now. I've managed to kill a couple of nice bucks back there, but I have also killed my share of dinks too. A few years ago I made the decision to pass on the dinks (spikes, Y's & buttons) and wait for a mature buck. I have eaten my back tag more times than I care to admit, but that is my decision. As much as I hate to shell out anymore money to NJ, I think the state might be on the right track with the bonus buck tag. If people have to put out the extra money, maybe they will think twice about filling thier tag with a young buck. I also think some form of antler restrictions would help. Maybe something like Jim suggest with a throphy tag. My only problem with antler restrictions would be for youth hunters, I think youth hunters should be able to take whatever deer they want. Now, as for shotgun week & clubs driving....Just not my thing. I hunted with a club for a few years, even managed to kill a nice buck one year. But I just don't think that lining a piece of woods with 50 guys while another 25 guys are pushing the deer, with everyone flinging lead as the deer are doing Mach 1...just not for me, sorry. I will stick to bow season, much quieter & much more enjoyable IMO. Best of luck to everybody. Dave |
