O.K. I will try to give u guys the short version. I just have gotten permission to a piece of land only about 7 acres surrounded by probably 100 or more acres of woods. Now it has been my father and myself there and and no one else since "04" great sign has a swamp right on the edge of property. Well here it is, i have been out here 4 times and have seen deer every time but fo some reason they allways wind me! Never really spook and run off but stop dead in there tracks and go the other way. now i shower in scent away soap, were the scent away deoderant, keep all my clothes in a container with earth scent wafers in there. I have been hunting for over 15 yrs and i have never expierienced this. the deer are all like 35 to60 yrds away when this happens. I could see if they were like 10 yrs but not that far away. I am maybe guessing that these deer are using this peice almost like what is sometimes called a sactuary? I am not sure but i just think since no one has been there i a couple of years they will notice every thing thats not normal. Well i am looking for any suggestions if anyone has expierienced this and maybe what to try different? i was planning on just rewashing all my clothes and taking the earth scent out and just use nothing. I also spray down with scent away before i go out. Any help would be appreciated

Set up for specific wind currents and only hunt there when they are right![]() __________________ What makes a man a man? Is it his origins, the way he comes to life? I don't think so. It's the choices he makes. Not how he starts things but how he decides to end them.

taking the earth scent out That could your issue right there. No scent is the best scent. If you are washing your clothes and storing them properly then washing your body properly there is no reason deer should be busting you that far away on a regular basis. Following those same procedures I have had over a dozen deer within 10yds of me, straight downwind, and still not bust me this year. Keep working on your scent control and you figure out what the issue is pretty quickly. Once you do I gaurentee that it will be worth the added effort. Good Luck, JC |

Hey Joe,Take the "Magic Tree" air freshener off the rear view mirror of your truck! That may help.![]() ![]()
Seriously , I tried "essence of fall" with great results . It's hard to find though. It smells a little like apple cider vinegar. I also noticed wearing a scent free head covering helps alot, since your head produces the most scent of your body. __________________ NRA LIFE MEMBER

do you guys think it is because no one has been hunting there in a few years? No, I actually think just the opposite. In fact, when I was hunting in Illinois a few weeks ago, in an area that recieves much less pressure than where I hunt in Jersey, I was absolutely amazed at how little the deer seemed to notice. (even the bucks) Even when those deer clearly sensed something unusual they rarely fled. Instead they looked for danger, then not recognizing any visually, they would go right back to their usual routines. Hope this helps, JC |

Deerpig,
Are you hunting from the ground or a stand? If you are hunting from a stand are the deer looking up in the tree for you? JC |

Don't eat any garlic the night before either.. The week before for that matter.. A little sweat on the way to the stand after some good garlic noodles the night before and you are busted!!!__________________ ............................................

am hunting from a stand and no they are not looking up Those are both obviously good things....The only other big thing that I could think of that often gets overlooked is your boots. Just remember to spray them down well with scent blocker and I think you should be in good shape. JC |
