Once a thief always a thief.   Trust me these people have no problem looking at themselves in the mirror after doing this.

my dad told me always put something in a deers ear, like a penny if you leave your deer in the woods for any reason.Problem call a CO,pull out the coin.Problem solved. Some guys would do anything for a buck.

Maybe I stole a deer once. I heard a drive going on about 200 yards away & shooting soon followed. About 20 minutes later a buck with half of its jaw hanging came by & I put it out of it misery. I was not in the line that they were pushing & in fact they were going the other way from me. Was this their deer? Should I have left it for them? My shot was the only one in the body other than the buckshaot to the face.

Several years ago I was hunting Clinton WMA on the opener of the doe days when I heard a single shot and soon after a big doe comes running through the cedars. One shot of OO and the deer was down, only to find out it had a slug hole mid body (Liver  shot). 5 minutes later a young kid and his father tracked the deer and I heard the kid say "Dad that man shot my deer". The father said "He dropped it so it's his". I said "Congratulations, she was dead on her feet and I stopped her from getting on to private property...she is yours, good job".

My mother and father taught me right.

Not everyone who hunts on state land during "slobgun" season are bandit thieves...lessons learned. I'm sure that young hunter will do the right thing when the opportunity presents itself in the future.  Leading by example.
Sorry for the rant, but I've met many more good hunters afield than the nitwit thieves in this post.

That's the general rule we've operated by for years-especially on drives where a deer will run along the line of standers and several guys have shot opportunities. The man the drops the deer gets the deer-even if someone else's shot would have eventually caused the kill. It mak4es for some hard feelings sometimes escpecially when its a realy nice buck-but at least every man knows the rule before participating in the drives so there can be no basis for complaint.

they showed their badges and opened the cell phone to call f&g and then the guys attitudes changed and said no need to call and have the deer bag.. said sorry for it...

Thety should have called anyway. This way they would be on record.  Their only going to try it again with someone else.

I've had to leave deer unattended but always gut them first. Before i leave I will usually place an unused old tag or some identifier in the mouth- nobody is gonna look in there just in case of dispute.

You have to tag it right away. it is law
