NJ Hunter / New Jersey Deer, Bear & Turkey Hunting / Deer Action / Deer Zone 51 / Howell 7 Pt Buck taken this morning(11/20)
Posted:  20 Nov 2007 10:26 AM
Started this morning off by walking out my front door and finding an 8 Pointer standing in my driveway. I live on the Belmar / Wall border so its not common to find deer in our neighborhood. All though were seeing more and more every year.
I got in the stand around 5:50am. The spot I was in is a draw area where the deer cross a paved service road. I was set off the road about 10 yards in a tree stand that I just set up last Thursday. This was my first morning in this spot. I was sitting in my stand trying to stay awake because I worked until midnight last night and didn’t fall a sleep until about 1:00am. I was checking the branches around my platform seeing which ones I needed to cut and where I needed to put some cover for this afternoons hunt. Then out of nowhere I heard some running when I looked up I had a doe underneath me about 10 yards away. I immediately jumped up and looked for a buck and right behind her came out this guy. The doe kept running and amazingly this buck stopped 10 yards away in a clearing. I took the shot and watched him run about 15 yards where I heard him drop on the pavement.
Then another buck, an 8-point came running out behind the 7 point and stopped in the same exact spot.
Knowing I had a good shot and hearing the deer drop on the road. I climbed down and walked out. That’s where I found him laying. Then the 8 Pt came busting out of the woods and ran about 5 feet past me following after the doe. The deer was dead in less then two minutes. The shot was right in the heart.

I the property I hunt is on the border of 16 and 51 so I hope you guys dont mind me posting under both zones.

nice!  looks like the leaves are still green down there?  My in-laws live off New Bedford Rd in wall and have been seeing more/more deer over the years.

Hey, Yeah I’m really close to New Bedford Rd. There are definitely a lot of deer running around that area. Those were Ivy leaves I think they stay green all year. The 8 Pt that came out was the same size, maybe a tad bigger.  This is the first buck I have taken with the bow in awhile. Didn’t want to take any bad shots or risk losing one. Then of course during Ml or shotgun they were always close easy shots. I was a little annoyed in the beginning of the season about paying the extra fee for the buck stub but after this morning its didn’t matter so much anymore. This little guy brought back the excitement again.

Nice buck and congratulations, but I'm glad it's not the 7 pointer I've been watching. He needs another year to go and isn't as big as your buck. Good work and many more!

Thank you, I would of liked to have passed him up but it’s been awhile and im not that disciplined yet. My wife doesn’t believe that I go hunting. She thinks your suppose to shoot something every time.
