man, my heart hurts right now.  sorry to jr and everyone else who saw this deer and was hunting this deer.  nothing is worse than seeing a deer hit by a car, something just is wrong about it.  anybody who got these antlers, hand them to jr to complete the story.

Man I know when I saw the pictures I was heartbroken. That buck is now known world wide thanks to you It sucks that such an awesome buck went down the way he did. I wish you could have had the antlers. But on another note, at least you have probably the only pics of this buck in all his glory from last year

yep...if you look at the leftside of the rack you can slearly see it is the exact same buck as in the trail cam JR got of him from this year.  as others have noted, I believe the buck had lost inches on its antlers and was in a downcycle

Agreed, the buck killed by the car is undoubtably the same buck as the one in JRs trail cam picture from 2007.

I think the doubt comes from the difference in the trail cam pics from last season and the pictures of the buck from this season.  Although I can clearly see its the same deer from last year, the rack did change drastically from last year (most notably the sagging main beams).

a few miles

This is a total of a 25 minute walk, that could have been taken over days, for an old buck (who knows exactly where every doe lives) to be a few miles from one of his other core spots.  All it takes is a willing partner and our (male) core areas expand magically!

just like everyone else, that sucks.

what the hell does core area have to do with deer during the rut. Hell, they could cover a mile easily in minutes if pushed or chasing a doe, that's just how it is.

as far as anyone having those antlers, I hope if someone cut them off, they get caught. The law is the law and it don't matter who got pictures of it, it's who's in possession of it legally.

Still, a great and famous NJ deer, and a pity someone didn't legally put a buck tag on it.

This was truely a sad day in NewJerseyhunter history!! Everyone on here knew of this buck thru Jrs posts. And I'm sure I speak for everone when I say that we all were hoping for you to get him. Not just because of on here but for as famous and as far as he got in the contest. And he's famous enough to have made a television commercial
As I mentioned in another post.....It was never said that she isnt cruel!
