NJ Hunter / New Jersey Deer, Bear & Turkey Hunting / Deer Action / Deer Zone 10 / Hunting from the Ground...

I was there from 9:30 am till 12:30pm then 2pm till dark.. around 4:30 or so I saw 2 fawns working their way to me, I was waiting for mommy to show up. about 30 minuets or so, I turned to my left & there she was 5 yards from me. She stopped to eat some acorns and gave me a nice broadside shot. I drew slowly and came to anchor.... I loosed the arrow and hit her good, As she was running off I saw the broad head and part of the arrow. I waited for about 30 to 45 minutes, I came home grabbed another light & help and tracked it for 2.5 hrs and the deer went on to land that the owner doesn't like hunters and won't let me track it/any deer on his land... I am mad, because I lost a deer.... even tho the shot looked good & there was lots of blood... I think it's also because the back 10inches of the arrow was left in her ( because I didn't find it just the front half )...It was a rush hunting from the ground blind.... Had a total of 20 DOEs walking around me over 5 hours of sitting time...

Call the Co and ask him to come out and help you look. Not sure if the owners can deny him the right to help you.

When that deer starts smelling up the place if it don't get eaten fast enough they will even hate hunters more if he finds the arrow in the deer.

Thats the hard part when it happens.

Unfortunately it is the guys property the deer decided to go and die on.  The law for tresspassing is very specific.  The guy is just a d**k...

It isn't your fault that deer is going to "waste".

I say "waste" because everything in nature is totally recycled... yotes, vultures, and the plants that get nourished as the remains rot away all enjoy your kill even if you don't get to...

Maybe some of the bear that arent in NJ will go and eat it up and bother him in his driveway tomorrow morning

You did what you could.   No need to make trouble for yourself.  Just my $0.02

lost an 8pt last week cause he crossed onto another piece of property. was a 1 lung hit as far as i could tell. i waited 45mins and started tracking. the buck crossed the road into a persons yard. i walk up ask if i can get the deer.... i get a big SCREW YOU GET OFF MY PROPERTY! SUCKS but it happens, call my buddy who's a cop in town and he goes with me the next day. the land owner says i'm crazy there was never a deer in his yard. still wouldn't let us look. i could've called fish and game and had them send out a warden but by then he would've went bad.  what can ya do!!!!!

I have always had good luck from the ground. The keys are good camo, and cover scent/scent eliminator.I once had a group of spooked does come running by me,and one actually bounced off of my blind-never seeing me.

If the land owner leaves the deer alone, and it rots there's nothing you can do. But if the land owner takes that deer --the CO's can and will issue a ticket for untagged deer in possession

They did that for a friend in vernon last year. land owner denied access to recover a nice 8 point buck, and then took the deer and cut the horns off. CO's came, confiscated the deer and issued the land owner a ticket for untagged deer!

I'll get someone to take a pic of me in the blind from a deers view. I also want to see what other clothes look like in black & white... anything that brakes-up your outline the better it is....

black & white

Deer can see colors in the blue/yellow/violet spectrum. They cannot distinquish between browns, green, and reds, including hunter orange.

As best decsribed they see like a human who is red/green color blind. factor in these colors in making clothing choices

this is true MTH, but using black & white photos helps when finding better cover/patterns. More ppl use this when they are making ghillie suites. I have old camo coveralls, red/gray plaid jacket/shirt & gray hoodie. I also use a lefy hat/ camo face net/ camo or black beenie pull over hat...
