Anyone seeing any decent sign out there? I have the youth deer hunt next weekend and not sure where I want to go. In no way am I trying to take anyones spot, just trying to see if its worth my time going out there to look around. Last year was really tough..is it any better? Looking for my first deer..deciding whether to go here or out in colliers mills..any help is really appreciated!

I think that it's 50/50. Where did you hunt in greenwood last year? I could tell you a few areas to try. It depends how much you want to walk. Are you hunting with a climber?

me and my dad hunt the rye fields. you go in off rt 72 where the railroad bridge is. Last year for the youth day I saw 5 does and a buck but never had a shot. Thats all i saw that year, nothing else during muzzleloader. I wont be using a stand because all I have is a ladder stand which is really heavy and not worth putting up in the morning..and I have to go to school so during the week is off limits to getting out there. Walking for me would be no problem, but could be for my dad. And I think he has to be with me just because its a youth hunt.

I've kicked up quite a few deer along Howardsville road over the last couple of days scouting around

its a little better than last year. even though i have Not purchased my extended bow and buck tag$ to send a message to the state i have been out checking my hunting areas. i saw good scrapes and a rub last week.unless those rye fields are green i would look to acorns and side trails with good deer sign. to sit on a feather grass field unless baited wouldnt be my choice.

I'm planning on taking my son out on Saturday for the youth opener, I havent gotten a chance to do any scouting due to work and being new to the area. Anyone have any suggestions for my son and I? I was thinking of still hunting and doing some calling to see if I can get something in for a shot.
Thanks.

wish i could have read this sooner.  the bucks are rutting so anything could happen for you. if your hunting zone 21 i would stay away from the stocked bird fields because the deer are gonna get pushed away and there are gonna be hunters all over the place. maybe hunt the outter edges . there should be plenty of sign for you to find. maybe just sit on a good trail where you find tracks. hunting near scrapes isint gonna be productive because they are gonna hit those at night. just get out and enjoy the day. walk a little and sit the last hour of the day.
