i have hunted fort dix for 12 years. never seen a bear track but you ever know. ive been scouting there the last several weeks. i will ask around. there is alot of land there but food for them wouldnt be all that.a bear can have a 40 mile sqaure range so anything is possible.

Guys have been seeing bears in the Mills for years. They just catch glimpses of them most of the time. Rumor is all those bears that were in the Howell / Wall area a couple years ago were placed in the Mills and other WMA's in the Ocean County area

There are bears in Fort Dix. My friends father runs some kind of security thing out there. He shuts down this section he operates for a few das during gun season so that we can hunt it.

We have all seen bears. Although, we are the only 4 people that hunt this area, so maybe its a pressure thing. Either way, they are there. Just like they are in Washington TWP, Mercer Co. Plenty of people have seen them there, too.

Its only a matter of time before they come down.I did see a few years ago some type of cat in whitesbog.I dont know if it was a bobcat, mountain lion or what.It was long, light brown, low to the ground, and i could tell it was catlike. It was almost dark, and i was getting ready to come out of my stand. The worse part was it was in the direction i had to walk,so i knocked my arrow just in case.

I lived right near WhitesBogs and have seen numerous pics of bears near the village there so it wouldnt suprise me if they are still running around in there

Bear was in South Toms River, game wardens knocked on peoples doors asking if they saw it.  They said the bears are being relocated down here but it's not public.  Didn't hear anything else about the bear.  They are in Whiting too.  This is fact, whether Fish and game want to let the cat out of the bag or not.
Wouldn't relocating bears to South Jersey be considered introducing invasive species?

state doing the same thing with bears as they did yotes them put them down here and deny it when asked

i believe at one time there were  a few bears in the pines.i dont think it suits there habitat and i highly doubt they are being re-located to the pine barren and if they were they would want to stay.too many chiggers and not enough food. i mean just look at the average deer (what 60-70 punds soaking wet?) in the pines. do you think a bear is gonna  be better off.im talking about the heart of the pines. fort dix has many farms and planted fields as well as the area around colliers mills.

liquid i know what u mean    i don't think a bear would have enough forage to sustain its wait deep in the pines    unless it eats cranberries

Maybe thats why they are venturing into peoples yards and Fish and Game is coming and knocking on peoples doors trying to track em down.
I have seen a few pics of a bear in peoples yards in whiting.  A few days later my folks spotted a bear at a well known park in whiting.  These bears didn't relocate themselves to whiting.

There's more food in the pines than you guys think. more than enough to support a population of bears.

i dont doubt that but i dont think they were put there. there are miles of military roads going through the state from earl navy base through the center of the state down to lakehurst and fort dix. there are also underground phone lines that run across the country with maintanance roads and such that most people dont have easy access to . i think these roads act like hi-ways for all kinds of critters .i think a bear in the northern part of the state could easily migrate south.with all the bears up north overpopulating any new cubs kicked out would just start walking looking for new grounds of there own.   look at the coyote problem in middletown last year. the earl restricted navy road runs right through that town.the summers are brutal in the pines. deer flies- ticks- chiggers- and seasonal berries dont make great habitat. bears are omnivores and eat anything but i still believe unless there is a steady source of food like a dumster they would just pass through to better places.i havent seen a grouse in the pines since the 80-s and the turkeys have a hard time making a living.
