Seems like Cabelas would have it on the website to create a buzz.
They moved the CT store from "coming soon" to "now open" immediately, so they keep it up to date. Just move into a big box? Without doing any major changes to make it look super cool like the other stores. Someone on this forum a couple of weeks ago said there would be a Cabelas down the shore soon. He said "you heard it from me first." Seems like they would lose alot of sales from New Yorkers. But, you never know. Or the rumor is flying around now. |

Doubt it. Cabelas does not take over existing buildings. They build from ground up and do everything their way. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil. Doubt it. Cabelas does not take over existing buildings. They build from ground up and do everything their way. I read a great article about Cabelas business model for one of my classes back in college. Ideally, they buy up a bunch of land near large highways. Land that has nothing on it (this business model in tough to follow in NJ). Then they lease the surrounding land around the store in long term leases to places like Applebees and other stores and restraunts like that. THEY bring business to an area that was previously nothing. They also demand large tax breaks from the states that they open new stores in. They know that they can bring big money into areas and create many jobs from their stores and the stores surrounding their stores (which they create the demand for). They try to leverage that power the best they can, and I believe that is where they are running into problems with the NJ location. __________________ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. It'd be sweet if that was a Gander Mtn. or Bass Pro.!!!! That would really put up some competition in the state. I spoke with Jay, CEO of Gander Mountain, last week and he told me that they just won a lawsuit against Cabela's to enable them to start up their catalog mail order/online order service again. I'll post more when Gander Mountain's service is up and running. As far as getting a Gander Mountain Store in NJ (nearest ones are in Scranton, Pa and Middletown, NY), Jay stated that when you visit those stores to be sure to give them your zip code. If they see that NJ residents are frequenting those stores, their business strategists will likely come to the conclusion that it's time to open a tore here in NJ. When the mail order/online order services are up and running this will also help to determine if a store location in NJ will be profitable. Back when they had the mail order catalog service they were 33% cheaper than Cabela's for the identically same products and/or better quality products. Also, having visited one of their stores in Minnesota a few years back, they still blow Cabela's away, not only in pricing, but in store organization and a very helpful and knowledgeable staff on hand at the store to help you get what you really want or need for the best price. It may be possible that cabela's is waiting to see the outcome of the anti-hunting bills before they make the final go-ahead for thier NJ stores. What good would a store like cabelas be here in NJ if there was no hunting or fishing allowed. __________________ NRA LIFE MEMBER

Before Cabelas there was NOTHING there. Now there are dozens of stores, restraunts, RV dealers and even a jewlery store. BTW, Cabelas is PA's #1 tourist attraction. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil. Maybe its because I'm from the south end , but I never understood the whole reason for putting a Cabelas in the middle of metropolis up there. Every store I see that Cabelas or BPS put up is in a rural setting near a highway. Their must be more deer on the sidewalks than I thought for the hunters and fishermen from Jersey city, Staten island and the five boroughs? Most people unless you live in that area stay clear of it up there. Hell I don't like to go anywhere north of Deptford or Turnersville.
IMO I thought with all the growth in Millville that was the ideal place for a big store. Just about every house in these bottom five counties down here has a boat and/or a bow target in their yard. We are surrounded by the Bay, Ocean, The big D, and woods. It is definitely needed down here, as it is all the good shops are gone. It would be nice to walk into a shop and see more than two brands of bows, three sights, 600 arrows, a few rests, and a hand full of stands. Oh yea don't forget the paintball supplies. if they would open in Bellmawr, it would be awesome, but there isn't much open land for them to build. Why not, say, Williamstown, that way I could roll out of bed and be there. We have plenty of access, i.e.rt 42, rt 322, and the AC expressway right here.

Jersey political rumor mill is that Bass Pro Shops is considering building in BELLMAWR. ( South Jersey) The location would be on the Bellmawr Landfill. They are currently capping it (24/7 trucks are taking in clean fill to cover the landfill) And the State has already appoved the exit/entrance ramps off Rt. 42 and Rt. 295. There is proposed a complex of Stores, a Hotel, and a Convention center. And we all know, Bass Pro Shop puts their stores in with other Stores like a Mall. I'm sure at this point it's still in the "Political Payoff" stage, but it does sound promising ! __________________ President-UXBNJ

As I mentioned in a letter to Gander Mtn. a few year ago:
Rt. 195. Malls and outlets--where you usually build. (They take over existing buildings and rehab.) Gateway to the shore for about 1/2 of NJ and all of NYC 1/2 way down the state. Driving from Ramapo is just as easy as going to Middletown NY. 45 min. from Philadelphia. under 30 min. from Harry's and Sportsmen's, 2 of the biggest retailers in NJ etc. etc. __________________ "Liberty and Prosperity"....the former our state government is trying to eradicate, and the latter they are trying to prevent.

I agree with Woj!! But it is absolutly NOT opening in Neptune! I know someone in Cabelas relatively high up and he said he hasn't even heard that rumor, and they hear all the rumors. If they have it listed on their website how can you guess either way, I too will go on the record as saying it will never be finished. Too much union BS and political BS hold projects up.
When I first heard of BPS I thought it would go at the old RCA site, they are already building a Petsmart, Michaels and something else there. Quote:
And the State has already appoved the exit/entrance ramps off Rt. 42 and Rt. 295 They need an exit for the Turnpike in that area also. Blackhorse pike is a pain in the ass to get to the TP. And would cut a lot of that 55, 42, 295 interchange traffic down a little. That would be great to have something like that down here. __________________ The decline of people is their endless pursuit to trade time for money.

It just came back to me... I was at Denton hill this year and aguy I know came by the booth.. He's a manager at Cabelas in Hamburg. I think he did say something about Cabelas starting to move into smaller markets like Hermans.. in established stores that kind of thing.
As much as I'd love to disagree with Rich...he may be correct.. love ya Rich |
