Did not even scout there yet. Need to go through those roads with a hedge trimmer to stop scratching the paint on the truck. __________________ Use enough broadhead!

| I was out scouting the other day, I saw a drag mark, so someone got something. I did see a nice looking basket eight and a six. I just hope they are there for muzzleloader. I have a bad shoulder so I don't bow hunt. | ||

its getting pathetic over off the black horse pike. I stopped hunting there last year because every time I was in there I had them come by. Broad lane on the southern side of winslow rd is getting bad too.

I was just wondering. I'm very happy with my spot. I'm just looking for areas to drive through with my son in the truck so he can see more deer.

Cant get them back in the swamp. Thats the only place I hunt over there. Put up with a bunch of BS to see endless amounts of spikes and Y-bucks. I swear I saw the same Y in ten different spots I have in Winslow.
Look at the harvest numbers last year and compare them to the last five years numbers, something is definitely wrong. Over hunted, over baited, poaching, quads, and guys dragging out every deer they see is the problem in that woods. That woods deteriorated when they cleaned up Blue anchor fire line road, if you didn't have 4WD you didn't get down that road and nobody hunted that side. All the better bucks came out of that side. Now you can do 50 from Winslow rd. to Piney hollow. I loved that woods back in the 70's and 80's I've hunted it since I was 9 years old. Now I use it as a last resort. __________________ ..

Quote: Opening day there are tons of hunters , then it thins out. Alot of the local ride quads and do other illegal stuff back there on a regular basis. Youll see the same regulars as the season progresses. Once 6 day hits , its a free for all that resembles a traveling circus. I prefer a few weeks into bow and then permit muzzleoader to have the best possible and quiet experience . It's a shame. It's a beautiful serene area back there without all the non-sense that goes on otherwise.I've just started driving through that area since they fixed the bridge, looks real nice. Are there a lot of people back there? __________________ NRA LIFE MEMBER

Iknow what you mean about the fire trail. I take the main road behind the office a lot. I used to see 15-20 deer every time, but last year and this year I'm lucky to see 5 or 6.![]() Something is definetly going on.

I didn't want to bother the bow hunters, so this morning I sat in my stand for about 2 1/2 hrs. I saw 3 does, 2 fawns, 4 chipmunks, a fox, and about 40 or 50 tree rats. They drove me nuts. When I got down I walked about 2-3 hundred yards further down the trail and saw at least 3 sets of buck tracks. All were coming in off a nice grassy field(private)which is about a half mile away. I am very much looking forward to Muzzleloader season![]() n .

The C/O I know called me the other day and let me know he apprehended a guy on an illegal dirtbike in the WMA the other week that fit the description of the guy that we suspected of being one of the guys that we suspected of sabotaging the stands. He said he couldnt get a confession out of the guy but something was up. He read him the riot act and told him to spread the word to anyone he knows that if they are caught messing with safety gear or stands that it is a serious offense and will not be treated lightly. He also threw the book at him for the riding violations and I think he said he impounded the bike as well. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED SINCE THEN: NO ONE HAS BOTHERED OUR STANDS !!!!!! GEEZ COINCIDENCE OR WHAT!!!!!! __________________ NRA LIFE MEMBER

What a beautiful thing. I went and sat in my stand this morning. I hit the can and grunted a couple of times and the biggest eight pointer I've ever seen(alive in the woods) came walking in. He came within 10 yds the first time, then he circled around, went into the thick and about 15 minutes later came back into me. Only this time he walked directly below me. I thought about jumping on his back. Here it is about 2 1/2 hours later and I'm still a little shaky. ![]() ![]() Come on Muzzleloader.

I'll be out tomorrow hopefully. Im taking a few days off to work with the realtor looking at some houses but can squeeze in some Hunting before and after. Im gonna bait heavy this afternoon and splash a little tinks #69 scent around, that should get em in the mood .
Also , a State police officer I know was leaving the woods the other day and encountered a few people riding w/out permits. He gave them a verbal warning and informed them of the laws and they said they would adhere to the rules from now on. __________________ NRA LIFE MEMBER

I just came back from Winslow a little while ago and put two bags of corn out along with a bottle of golden estrus on two wicks. They just planted winter grass in the field 80yds on the side of my stand and there isnt a 1 foot square on the ground in that 150 yd long field that isn't trampled with tracks. The deer must be havin a freakin orgy there at night.
Just to blow off some steam , I walked the road a mile in each direction picking up roadside trash when an old man the hunts there regularly stopped and talked with me for a bit. He also experienced some problems with people messing with the stands and told me " I me be an old man but if you catch somebody f-ing around with anybody's stuff, holler for me and i'll help you kick the livin shit out of them.
That made me laugh the whole way home. It's good to make allies. __________________ NRA LIFE MEMBER

A friend of mine keeps two lock on's on the black horse pike side of the wma. I talked to him earlier, he said he had to replace his steps two weeks ago. he now uses the removeable ones.

There was a nice size six pointer I took a shot at and missed a few inches low about 10 days ago in the north side of winslow, and with the other issue's about the riders, if I go back there after wook to check my site and bait. If I see them I stop to talk to them and scare the crap out of them because I'm still in uniform. Hope you guys are having luck out the. Have not been out because I just got back from Arizona.

I killed a spike out of there the other night and there's plenty of deer sign. I am gearing up for the first to days of muzzleloader in a couple of weeks which is my favorite time to hunt. My buddy had the LEO's there again the other day. There is still some serious shit going on back there that I cant get into detail about because it's still under investigation. All I can say is someone or someones is in some big trouble when they get caught.![]() ![]() __________________ NRA LIFE MEMBER

This is my first post and by no means mean to take swipes at your guys.
But.. 65 would be so much better if hunters stopped shooting the little bucks Y's and spikes.. even the smaller 6pt and 8pt. I have been hunting there for 20 years and there used to be some really nice bucks. My father took a big 12pt out of that woods. I think the orange army comes in and have the brown it's down mentality. It would be nice if the state implements the 3pt QDM like other zones. It would make that deer herd much better. Don't forget. Only way you will kill bigger bucks is to let the smaller ones go. |

The herd in Winslow has diminished quite a bit over the past few years, and I too think the clubs have a lot to do with it. Yes its legal to harvest what they do.
My main complaint is driving during doe days that just means shoot what ever moves to most of these guys. Like I said before, I've been hunting those woods since the 70's when I was following my pop around and have killed some nice bucks in there, and that woods has gone no where but down in quality. And its just a last resort for me anymore. __________________ ..
