Great post matty I let the small bucks walk all the time. And when I want my deer meat I shoot the does there are two many of them.I just let a beautiful 125 class 8 pointer walk Sat I know he will be awsome next year.Hey dont get me wrong there are some smaller bucks that will never be more than what they are so take the bad genetics out of the heard. Its all about managing the property the wright way. So I am all for letting the smaller bucks walk. And all my hunting buddys do the same.

I know we want to let them go and let them grow! But the truth is this is NEW JERSEY and you really CAN'T manage deer here! I have tried believe me. I live on a 150 acre farm and I have yet to see the same bucks year after year! If you don't shoot them someone else will! That is the TRUTH! During 6 day you guys have admitted it...if its BROWN ITS GOING DOWN! So many guys who aren't true hunters hunt with that very same motto! Between these guys and the farmers who will have bagged bucks way before they let any city boys get a crack at them with the .270 is what is really going on so...whether you decide to shoot the spike or not just know the guy sitting 100 yards away on the adjacent property probably will shoot it!!!!

It works. We pass as many as we can.

I've heard of mature bucks w/ spike bone...  Sometimes letting the spikes live = letting the lesser genetics procreate.

I think spike limitations should be removed and replaced with mass restrictions of some sort... i.e. no taking of immature animals.

A mature buck, regardless of headgear, has had a chance to spread his genes.

An old spike in a point-count restricted area spreads his genes unchallenged increasing the probability of more of the same...

Maybe I'm just misinformed. Maybe I'm ignorant.  I'm sure someone will let me know either way
