| I was hunting zone 3 on Sat. In the same area as last year. For three years now I have seen the same spike buck that should be a shooter. I know the deer is over 3 years old but he has a least 18 inch spikes that when you first see this deer you would think he is a massive 8 pointer. real thick main beams probably 16 to 18 inch spread. Looks like he will easily weigh over 200lbs. I tried to get a picture but it didnt come out to good. But this is what we need for Quality Deer managment a big buck with poor genes mating and living year after year. | ||

Wait until he drops his antlers and then he will be legal. Take him during winter bow.
Get them bad genes out of the herd!! |

That's the biggest problem with passing on ALL bucks without a certain rack. A property i hunt in NC has shooting rules where your first deer can be anything and your second has to be at least a 4 pointer. You'd be surprised how many 3 pointers i've seen there (i saw 5 in one evening). More than i've seen hunting anywhere else. These deer and big spikes get an unnatural advantage that lets them pass on the bad genes. Its an odd one but hard to fix. You can't very well say "shoot it if it'll better the genes even though it doesn't fit in the point scheme" __________________ Fat Cat Sportfishing

| I would like to see that big old spike take on a 8 and see who gets pinned, he might get a brow tine headache and retreat. | ||
