NJ Hunter / New Jersey Small Game & Waterfowl Hunting / Waterfowl / North Zone / dopey fisherman ruined my goose hunt
Posted:  29 Sep 2007 6:58 PM
I set out my floaters this afternoon on a pond I have had much success at. About 4:30 some lame-o gets on the water to fish. He starts fishing 30yds from my dekes then drifts to an area where he would be down range if I shot.  I told him I was goose hunting there when he showed up with his boat, but he didn't care. He didn't even have the courtesy to fish on the far end of the lake. If it had been me I would have not fished thatlake at all and went somewhere else to fish.

I just rounded up my dekes and left.

While this is true...its called courteousy.

If you see someone is hunting or fishing a spot, you dont come right over and ruin their good time or their whole outing for that matter.

Sure sometimes its unintentional, but if you can avoid others, why not?

230, you are not the only goose hunter I heard complain about this. I was sitting in a parking lot at Black River one day last week eating my lunch and a goose hunter pulled in and spoke with me about how hard it is to hunt early season geese without being disturbed by fisherman, boaters, hikers, etc. Nobody has any respect for waterfowlers the way he made it sound. So until you can get off the waterways and into cut fields, I guess you're in a tough position.

I feel for ya...I dont goose hunt, but having hunts ruined by other people is never fun.

Why cant they just wave, and move along?

Oh well...

Good luck 230grain...

Get used to it in Jersey, these are some of the reasons I've gotten out of waterfowl hunting. To me it's not worth the aggarvation.

Rights are linked to reponsibility and courtesy.

Yes he has a s much right to fish there as I have to hunt.

I had the sense of resposibility leave when he put himself in a position to get shot if I fired.

He didn't have the courtesy to go somewhere else not even to the far end of the lake.

Frank, he said the same thing about you!

I didn't ruin any thing for him I left.  I would have liked to follow him around the lake and keep rowing my boat in a circle around his crossing his line, but I didn't. I also have respect for the law other wise I would have punched him out.

First on there gets the spot.  Period.

However, in this case... I would just assumed that the guy did not mind fishing in the steel rain.
