Finally got the buck I have been hunting since the season started

This buck came in right at last light last night.  I shot him almost right under my stand.  I put the arrow right down though his vitals, but he took a death run like I have never seen a deer run.  He made it about 300yards and died in a 4 foot ravine after crossing a road, through a thicket, under a log, and down the ravine.

It was about an hour track job, and an even further drag.  He dress out at 170lbs.

Here are some pictures

Here is a little story behind this deer....

Here is a picture of this buck from 2005 as a spike..
http://www.newjerseyhunter.com/images/upload/jul07/633252200785321317.jpg

And last season he was a 7pt who somehow avoided my arrow all season...
http://www.newjerseyhunter.com/images/upload/jul07/633252203393681337.jpg

Here he is in one of the first pictures I got of him this season.
http://www.newjerseyhunter.com/images/upload/jul07/633252201294494441.jpg

One night this season I went to a stand on another property.  And sure enough he showed up at the stand I wasnt at.
http://www.newjerseyhunter.com/images/upload/jul07/633257248200191300.jpg

And last Friday I was in the stand as he came in.  This picture was taken about 30 secs before he spotted me in the tree as I drew back

Last night I set up another stand about 20 yards further in the woods than the one he spotted me in last week.  He came in downwind of me, checked the empty stand.....and got whacked

Cant wait to get him on the wall.  Im gonna take him to Steve at SPFTaxidermy sometime tomorrow or monday

Nice deer and great story. Thats what I call hunting. The chances you get and sometimes dont get him right away makes it even sweeter at the end of the day. Great Job!

Absolutely....this is a very special deer to me

What were you thinking when you trailed him to the road

Believe it or not, I was relieved.  The piece he crossed into is narrow and I knew it would be easier to find him in there if I lost the trail.  The woods I shoot him in are wide and hard to trail.

hopefully he crashed not far from the road

He went about 200 yards off the road.  I didnt have my knife on me so me and my Dad drug him with his guts still in him.  He was every bit of 200lbs on the hoof.

Way to go  It looks like he grew a good bit from 2 to 3years old.  I guess you could say its a good thing he avoided your arrow last year as he is nicer this year.
