I went spot ligtin the other night....it looked like most of the deer were sleeping in the feelds. a few had there eyes closed?  Why wold they sleep in feelds?
Posted:  25 Sep 2007 2:02 PM
Maybe because they were tired?

I might be wrong but, It could have been the really bright light you were shining at them.  I don't think that deer are deep sleepers.

last week i took my 2 yr old to a cemetary that is loaded with deer and i pulled up to a group of deer bedded down ...ofcourse one by one they popped up but there was this one buck which happens to be a very large non typical we keep seeing that was laying on its side and had its eyes closed..i pulled up to about three feet and honked and it finally stood up and ran off...it was one of the strangest things i had ever seen

lol funny. But they might be comfortable. Most deer like thick cover to bed down but If they dont have to I dont see why they cant just bed down where they want to.

I've jumped many a deer in the fields at all times of the day. Almost stepped on a few. That stayed put just like a pheasant.

Way to go gutshot maybe a deer should shinola a bright light in your eye to see how it feels?

Used to enjoy ridding around and spot lighting when I was young but haven't had that desire in 20 years now.

Took a large healthy doe once, in this type of weather, she was in the shade semi concious of her surroundings,...bedded in shallow water on the one side of a small mountain stream...... dozing in and out as I stepped...... a 40 minute stalk in the ghillie at 4yds., ....while she lay.....she went 80 yds

People always spot my unkles farm. When I am there the lights always hit the house.

We have that problem also,it makes my dog bark and he barks loud!
Posted:  26 Sep 2007 9:09 AM
What kind of dog do you have? Does the dog scar the deer?

They bed down and dhew the regurgitated food from their stomachs.

I have a yorkshire terrier and he can really bark.My moms brothers wife has a collie and instead of barking he howls when the lights shine at our house. My dads sister has 2 kids and there dog muffin will usually chase after the car.We have called the DFW a few times but so far no success.Does anyone else have this problem of people spotting on their property and if so do you have any suggestions on what to do???

Sometimes my unkle uses an airhorn.  They leave.

Most of the time the collie and muffin stay outside and are always runnin around chasing the deer throughout the fields and woods.it gives them quite a workout.I agree jerseyhunter I am amazed how many lay there and let you walk right by.Chris M are you sure your allowed  to spot deer during the hunting season?I thought it was only when the season was closed.

Deer were enjoying the nice soft cushiony grass versus the hard acorn laden woods.

These deer were sleeping like mastrbaiters terrier.  Just like my uncles lab. I see dozens of deer on his farm but never sleeping like a curled dog.

When I brought my house 4 years ago, I left it unoccupied for about 3 months while doing renovations(huge oak flat surrounds the property) I had deer in the yard all the time. (neighbors are to close no hunting)

I came by the house to do some work one afternoon and found a doe lying on the concrete slab at the front door! I thought it was dead. I walked right up to it and tapped it with my foot-That thing popped straight up and about ran me over as she was running away-That deer was sound asleep and had no idea what was going on arround her-That was about 3pm in august.
