Has anyone here gone goose hunting at Assumpink?  Specifically on any of the field?  I'd like to go out but don't know where to go.

Thanks,
David

neither do I.  I'll be buying some in the very near future.  I've just got my blind and a goose call.

Now I just have to find out where to go???

Send me an e-mail at diacobone@us.loreal.com with a # I can reach you at.  We'll work out the details.

yoda - let me check the seasons dates... I don't think we can start whacking Canada geese again until November.

Also I have all of the following (except decoys):

- steel shot
- NJ stamp
- Federal stamp
- HIP number

Drag,

Those are the easy things to get. LOL.  The big $ items are the decoys & blind.  And of course, a piece of property is not easy to get.

Thats the tough part. The place I used to hunt is now townehomes.

We need a cornfield, or a golf course.

Why can't we hunt Assumpink?

The fields where the UBNJ shoot was would be ideal.

Season starts Nov. 12th for the northern zone.

Then there is a special winter season way up north.

I don't see any reason why we couldn't.  I just don't know where.  What kind of fields are they?  Grass, corn, soybean, or something else?  And the big question is, do geese visit them?  One last question, where are these fields?

I know a guy that used to jump shoot ducks there.  Maybe when I get my dog.  My fear is running into guys with a decoy spread.

Small game is open then. So pubic (WMA) are out unless you like people walking in the decoys.
Posted:  18 Oct 2005 9:47 AM
you dont run into many people at old mine road. ive only see about 15 people there for pheasant. the road is about 15 miles long so its one person per mile. thats pretty decent because ive 15 people is alot more than normal.

I see a lot of people later in the morning.  We eventually take rides along there.

mack/mpemt24,
There's one huge problem with that area... it's like 2hrs from my house.  And I know for Paul it'll be almost 3hrs.  That's why I asked about Assumpink.

BobR,
What time do the upland hunters usually begin?  If it's like 9am, goose hunting is usually done by then.  And hopefully if we're shooting, the upland guys won't enter the fields.

it begins at sunrise and ends half hour after sunset. i usually get to my sptot about a half hour before shooting can start.
Posted:  18 Oct 2005 10:07 AM
That stinks.  Maybe I'll have to do a weekday goose hunt.  Do you think the upland guys go out then?  I figure it'll be much less if any.

Hey Yoda, where are you located? I just moved to Ocean County from Sussex two months ago and I'm looking for someone to go goose hunting with, but I'm not to familiar with the area here. If you're down this way let me know and we could possibly get together for some scouting and goose hunting. And on the Old Mine Road topic, a few of my friends and I have a few spots right on the Delaware that we set out decoys for hunting geese.
