You didn't answer the question if the deer humped up? That alone would tell you one of your clues. Go look for the animal around water.

I bet if it was a buck you'd be a little more tuned in to what happened. I wasn't going to tell you what Elmo did until you answered the first question. Its all an education but I would recommend you seek out one of your close friends that has a handle on animal anatomy to help you with bad hits. They will usally lay down but you must have pused the animal in excitement.

Sort of.  I dont understand why you would call yourself "gutshot".  I cant really think of anyone that would glorify that type of shot.  Is that what your name attempts to do?

A name like "gutshot" is like having a name like:

is there anybody on here who has NEVER wounded (or missed, because if you miss, you are just as likely to hit in a bad spot) you guys are quick to come down on people for asking questions on this forum, seems like every topic out there SOMEONE has SOMETHING negative to say. So the kids name is GUTSHOT, maybe he doesnt have someone there teaching him like most of us had..

Gutshot, it seems like your hitting the animal towards the ass end, I had this problem too when i was younger, i hit 4 deer in one season all through the guts, NOW its been over 9 years since ive have a gut shot, all my problem was was i couldnt tell where i was on the deer, try to learn to shoot with 2 eyes open (as you are probably shooting with only one eye open) it will let you gether much more light and at the same time let you see your whole target and much more...

as well as shooting with 2 eyes open, try to limit yourself to quartering away shots, this way your accidental habbit of aiming too far back will end  up putting the arrow right where you want it...

im not saying to HIDE your problem, get yourself a 3d target and practice, PICK A HAIR, you might be pulling your arm due to excitement.. AIM SMaLL MISS SMALL, concentrate and keep aiming until after you hear the arrow hit. DONT worry about seeing the arrow connect, the chanses are, if you dont see the arrow connect, you werent looking for your shot which means you did everything right and you SHOULD see the animal fall within 10-75 yards.....

are you a young hunter? how many years under your belt huting? how many kills? do you get real nervous when you see the deer? can you control your "buck fever"?

hope this helps

well a name like "outlaw" isnt a very appropriate name either, but i forgot to type in the JW afterwards when i made it "outlawJW" (stands for Outlaw Jose Whales a movie that i like) but some people dont see it that way because JW is also my initials... its only a screen name, doesne mean i am an outlaw....

ive even asked drag to change it to JerseyJay but it hasnt happened so im stuck with it....

I don't know how long gutshot has been hunting, but he might be asking for advice! You guys enjoy others pain, man! There are young guys on here that may not ask questions because guys are so helpful. Gutshot, mark the last blood, with toilet paper and make small circles til you find more blood, or some sort of stubling ground sign. If there is as much blood as you say, you hit something that will bleed her to death. What color is the blood? You should have a general direction that she was going, keep looking. Like others have said if all else fails look for water or low laying land, with cover. Don't give up, but if you don't find her, try to learn what you can from this expeirance and try to eliminate whatever happened for the next time. It sucks and you should feel bad but move on!

Gutshot,

I am still interested in trying to come up with a good guess as to where this deer was hit.  The clear liquid on the arrow could be from a gutshot.  However, you said it did not smell.  If you shot through the guts, that arrow is going to smell.

What kind of hair did you find?  Did you find any white hair at the hit site?

Look at the arrow again?  Is there a lot of blood on it or just a little bit?  Any fat on the arrow?

I think it is possible that you might have hit the brisket.

im gonna have to guess milk as well...  its the only thing that would look clear on an arrow shaft.. guts would be yellow/green/brown... you would know for sure if it were a gut shot..

.....should have taken a better look at the  bloated belly up carcass, you would have seen where you made the bad hit, .....and from there you could have determined what the liquid was and what not to do again

I'm gonna stay positive on this and you may have just creased the underbelly in which case there is a chance for survival. We will never know unless you knock the same deer down in the the next few weeks or find one dead nearby that fits the size. Keep an eye out for crow/buzzard activity. Definitely work harder on shot placement and good luck with the rest of your season.

Monmouthbucks...NO, what exactly do you mean? My daughter rides "a little yellow bus to school"...so what are you implying?...get a freakin' grip!!!  Insulting someone is the way to go???  Unbeleivable!!!  It's one thing to question someone's hunting ethics, but come on, where does it end???  Have some respect for others...and maybe a little self respect might be a good idea also...

I rode a little bus too. I turned out fine...I think.  Why did no one offer to help this kid? Actually go with him and help.  Everyone seems like a bunch of armchair quarterbacks.
