I was walking up to my stand as I noticed four deer leaving my area.  I was thinking great there they go and I won’t see them for the rest of the night. As I get up into my stand and settled in. I scan the area just to see if anything has changed and take a quick look at the time.  On Tuesday when I was there I saw two buck at about 6:30pm. So I sat there waiting for that magical time to get closer. As 6.25pm hit I got my bow in hand and ready for the first sign of movement.  Finally here comes one of the bucks I saw on Tuesday night with another buck about 10 yards behind him and one more buck about 10 yards behind the second buck. It was nice to see three buck coming right for my stand but I still need a doe. Luckily as the bucks come closer I see a fourth deer in the background but it is to far away to see what it is. By now one of the bucks spots me in my stand and starts to do his head bob move on me.  It was amazing to watch these three-buck as I wait for the fourth deer to show it’s self and finally she does. It the doe I need, The tricky part now is to get her into range and to be able to draw back and shoot without spooking the bucks and causing the doe to run off.  After about 5 minutes or so one of the bucks is off in the background and the other two are fighting over the corn. As they fight with one another the doe comes up to the corn and starts to eat. Now that all three bucks are preoccupied, I draw back, take aim and shoot.  I hear the arrow hit the ground as the deer scatter. I watch as the doe goes off in a different direction from the bucks and out of sight. Wow I shot at my first deer. So by now I am really excited and wondering how good the shot was, After I calm down I get out of my stand and recover my arrow from the ground where the doe was standing. It is covered down the whole shaft with a frothy coat of blood. I double lunged her. So I gave her about a half hour to die in peace and I went back to the truck to put my bow away. I start heading back into the woods to recover the deer and take my first crack a gutting one. I spot a black bear about 30 yards away from me. So I take a safe path to my stand. I make sure the bear knows where I am by grunting and making noise. Finally I get to my stand without a bear problem and start heading in the direction of my deer. I find her after a short walk lying down near a few small saplings.
It was a great night and I can’t wait to get in my stand again.
